Cool Cities Helps Paint Newark Green


We were delighted to help the City of Newark celebrate
its recent endorsement of the U.S. Mayors Climate
Protection Agreement. Festivities included a green
ribbon cutting by Newark Mayor Vance A. Funk III. This
event was sponsored by Sierra Club of Delaware, Ezra
Temko, Newark City Councilman from District Five
Bike Delaware, Center for Energy and Environmental
Policy, Delaware Bicycle Council, Delaware Center for
Horticulture, Newark Bicycle Committee, Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Newark, Urban Bike Project
Water Resources Agency, White Clay Watershed
Association, and
Wild and Scenic
White Clay Creek.

Sustainable Delaware Conference Planning Meeting on May 5
The first Cool Cities Delaware conference
will be on Wednesday, September 22, 2010
at the Virden Conference Center on the
University of Delaware campus in Lewes.
This conference is organized in partnership
with the Delaware Chapter of the American
Institute of Architects and the League of
Women Voters of Delaware, as part of their
annual Sustainable Delaware conference
and will focus on local government energy
sustainability, environmental stewardship
and climate protection policies, programs
and financing opportunities.
There is much work to be done to prepare for this conference. If interested in

Transition Town Newark—From Oil Dependency to Local


Resilience
In response to climate change and peak oil,
the Transition Town movement is growing
rapidly around the world. Communities are
discovering choices they can make that lead
to a sustainable future. This five-week series
is held on Saturdays in May from 4 to 7 pm
in “the Meadow” at Newark Natural Foods,
280 East Main Street. Free and open to the
public.

May 15th—Permaculture Workshop
