HEADMASTERS CORNER
Firstly, thank you so much to all those who came
to run in last weekends Fun Run in aid of Mrs
Russells chosen charity, Cancer Research
UK. It was so lovely to see the whole school
community coming together and great to see
parents with babies through to OTs currently in
Year 10 running together. In total we raised in the
region of 1800 and I very much hope that Mrs
Russell would have been proud of her school.
Special thanks go to Mr Jones and Mr Perez for
organising the route (just how many cones do
we have in the school?!). Thanks to Mr & Mrs
OLeary and Erin for organising the food and
refreshments along with Mrs Edwards, Mrs Allen,
Mrs Jenkins and Mr and Mrs Lewis for helping.
Mrs Russell was a truly wonderful lady; someone
who lived life to the full, she loved school but
most of all she loved the children she taught.
She was interested in every aspect of their work,
be it in class, on the sports field or on the stage.
As a consequence, FOTM would very much like
to rename the proposed Friends of Tockington
Manor Music and Performing Suite. We very
much hope that the Beth Russell Music and
Performing Arts Suite will be a fitting tribute.
I was delighted to hand out seventeen ARBSM
certificates on Monday; congratulations to all the
recipients. Keep up the practice!
Thank you to Year 8 for an enjoyable Monitors
meal and meeting on Tuesday evening. As
always their company was great but I do strongly
recommend that Lewis and Rohan keep clear
of the decorative chillies in future!! Next week
Year 8 head over to Stackpole for their Common
Entrance fieldwork trip. I know they will have a
very busy time and I look forward to seeing their
projects in due course.

CHARITY FUN RUN IN MEMORY OF MRS BETH RUSSELL
Well done and thank you to everyone who made the run a successful and enjoyable one, it was
a lovely morning. A special thank you to Mr Perez and all the parents who assisted Mr and Mrs
O'Leary in the Bistro. Together they raised just over 500 and when combined with all the other
generous donations on the day, we raised almost 1,800. A splendid effort with all proceeds going
to Cancer Research. A massive thank you to all.

Mrs Hinchliffe finally finished

her mammoth swim in the pool,
raising yet more funds for Cancer
Research UK.
She tells us she only needed the
arm bands and rubber ring for the
last length!
Her challenge was 10,000m in
3 days. She actually managed
3,300m on Friday, 4,800m on
Saturday and 3,300m on Sunday.
A grand total of 11,400m!
Thanks to the Portishead Lido
staff who supported her and
to everyone for their generous
donations.
Well done, Mrs Hinchliffe. Mrs
Russell would be proud of you.

NATIONAL POETRY DAY

We celebrated National Poetry Day in style at Tockington Manor School on Thursday. Our assembly
considered the theme of Freedom and we looked at some poems which had been written specifically
for this national event. We listened to poems read in French and Spanish and also an oral-story
poem about the Battle of Hastings.
Year 6 then shared a poem that they had chosen for Year 1 children. They had copied the poem out
and decorated it to give to their friend. The children then worked collaboratively to write an acrostic
poem on the theme of Harvest. Lots of super ideas were shared and it was fantastic to see such
excellent work from both year groups. We had a recital of the poems to finish our work together.

NEW COMPUTERS
Its great to have 20 brand new computers
set up with the latest windows software in the
ICT Suite. The pupils are now able to work
quickly and efficiently in their lessons, and
use Google to its full capacity. It also means
they can now access work from home.
