The Integumentary System

Off The Office on Netflix I learned that the biggest organ of the body is the
skin. An organ is made up of two or more tissues from the body to execute and
perform different functions. Including the skin, the skin has many different types
of tissues and its used to help maintain homeostasis. The skin and homeostasis is
one of the most if not the most important organ in your body. (Besides the heart)
If you didn't have skin you would look like the skeleton in your room and get
infected.

Figure 1:
The diagrams show 2 different views of the skin. One is zoomed out and the other
is a closer look at the skin. In the first picture it shows the outermost layer known
as the epidermis. Below the epidermis is the stratum corneum which is a much
thinner layer. Under that it shows sweat glands that start in the dermis going out
toward the epidermis. The purple part of the diagram shows the hypodermis which
regulates moisture in the skin. In the zoomed in diagram is shows all of the
different layers of the skin underneath the dermis. The most outer layer in this
diagram is the stratum corneum which is a larger region. Next is the stratum
lucidum. After that comes the stratum granulosum. After that is a stratum
spinulosum which is much larger than the other regions. The next one is a small
strip called the stratum basale. On the other side of that is the dermis.

Figure 2:
In this diagram found on page 180 shows a picture of the skin with a hair follicle.
The diagram shows all of the different tissues, muscles, veins, and capillaries that
are found beneath the skin. Each one of these things has an important function.
They each play a part in the integumentary system.

Figure 3:
There was a lab called the homunculus lab where we took a protractor and pt both
of the ends on different parts of our bodies. We moved the protractor closer and
closer to when we thought it felt like 1 point. Once you found that point you
measured the distance between the two points of the protractor. Once we got all
the information in the chart we found the inverse values. This lab was to determine
the density of the touch receptors.

Figure 4:
Another part of the lab i described above is to draw yourself on graph paper. Once
you did that you would color in the areas that were the smallest distance between
and the longest distance between. This drawing was to help us understand the
parts of the body that was tested the the density of your touch receptors.

The infographic is a drawing we had to make based off of an article about a man
who had some serious health issues while traveling in the desert. In the infographic
we were supposed to list the reasons he was so sick. We had to give what his
health status should be compared to what it was. We had to diagnose the patient
with his health problems and the reason his health issues were so severe. We had
to answer the questions at the end of the article.the purpose of doing this is so we
can learn the functions of the skin and how easily your health can be damaged by
not protecting your skin.
