    Willard South First Grade Newsletter

    We are learning:

    Math- We will learn to add and subtract within 20.


    Science-
    Science We will continue learning more about the Scientific
    Method as we conduct more experiments. Our experiments will
    provide opportunities to measure and communicate our findings.
    Writing-
    Writing We will be writing informational stories. As we are
    teaching others in our writing, we will include a topic sentence,
    supporting details, and a concluding sentence. We will continue
    using good punctuation.
    Reading-
    Reading We will continue to work on skills to help compare and
    contrast similar stories, put story events in sequential order, and
    identify the main idea and key details of a story.
    Word Work/Phonics-
    Work/Phonics We will continue segmenting sounds
    we hear. Our focus will be words with digraphs. (For exampleth,
    ch, sh, ph, wh, ck, kn, and wr words)

    Important Dates/Announcements
    7 Habits Principles +Open House is Monday, Oct. 2nd from 6:00-
    7:30 PM.
    +Hat Day is Tuesday, October 3rd.
    Habit 2Begin with the End +McTeacher Night is Tuesday, October 3rd.
    in Mind +October 20th is the last day of the first
    quarter.
    To begin with the end in mind: +Fall parties will be Friday, October 20th.
    See your childs teacher for party times.
