Production of Styro-Plastic Wall Tile Using Plastic Bottles,

Styrofoam and Dried Fibers of Talahib Leaves

Objectives

1. To prove that we can use waste materials in our community to produce

an alternative wall tile with a good quality.

2. To compare the durability of the wall tile made of recycled

materials to the commercial wall tile.

3. To develop an affordable choice of wall tile especially for those

who have a small budget.

4. To lessen the perennial problem everywhere which is caused by waste

materials by recycling them into a new product.

Methodology

A. Materials

1. Dry Fibers of Talahib

2. Plastic Bottles

3. Styrofoam

4. Resin

5. Hardener

6. Molder

7. Hammer

8. Oil
9. Strainer

10. Burner

B. Procedure

1. Collect used plastic bottles and styrofoam.

2. Pulverized the bottles by hammering and grinding until the

pieces are small enough and the edges can no longer cut the

skin.

3. Put the grinded bottles into a strainer to separate the small

pieces from the bigger ones. Hammer and grind the bigger pieces

until it reached the desired size.

4. Prepare three samples in different proportions to be able to

know the appropriate mixture.

5. Put a certain amount of oil in the molder then set in on fire

until the oil is hot enough.

6. Put the Styrofoam in the molder and continue stirring until all

the Styrofoam melts. The melted Styrofoam should look like a

paste.

7. Mix the pulverized bottle in the melted Styrofoam until all the

pulverized bottle is mixed evenly throughout the melted

Styrofoam.

8. Remove the molder from fire and allow the mixture to cool for

30 minutes.

9. Remove the tile in the molder.

10. Rate the texture of the tile.

11. Conduct tests to determine the durability of the specimen.
