Introduction

Today, it is known that the internet provides many information such as journals, articles, news
and media. Although, many people do not know how to search for the subject and how to
evaluate the given information [1]. So, because of so much information is available scientists
need special skills in the above mentioned spheres.
One of the ways of searching the information is library catalog which includes journals, news
and scientific articles. Another more popular way of finding is through the scientific websites
such as natural.com, sciencedirect.com. Firstly, the person should write the worksheet in which
key words, subject, title and author are written. After that, the person can find the information by
already had information. Thus, scientists could find the information by library or from the
scientific web sites [2].
As the scientists have found the information, he should evaluate the information. The evaluating
is the asking questions for example from the article. Scientists should consider the questions such
as who did write the book or paper?, who is the publisher?, Is the publisher academic
press? and so on. These mentioned questions are related to authority. So, the scientist can
evaluate the information by criteria such as audience, accuracy, objectivity, currency and
authority [2].
The importance of citing the information which was used in the research is to demonstrate the
reader that you have done a good research by listing the sources, to be a good researcher by
giving the credit and acknowledgment to ideas of other researchers, and mainly to avoid the
plagiarism by using the ideas by other authors [3].
Therefore, a good researcher and scientist should have great skills on finding, evaluating and
citing the information.
Assignment
1. Open access resource is defined as the resources that are available for viewing and using
and are free of all restrictions on access. Open access can be applied to published
research papers such as academic journal, conference papers, book chapters and so on.
For instance, The Turkish Online journal of Distance Education is an open access
journal [4].
3. There was a clinical experiment at Stanford University School of Medicine in which
modified human stem cells were injected directly into the brain of 18 stroke patients. As a
result, there were no side effects of this process, but some mild headaches are observed in
patients. Although, at the end of this clinical trial, all of 18 patients demonstrated low period
of rehabilitation after stroke. It means that patients who were limited for moving showed
walking again freely [5][6].
4. The topic of upcoming lab is projectile motion. So, popular article was taken from the
Physics classroom which is related only for study, whereas scholarly article on topic
Projectile motion in real-life situation: Kinematics of basketball shooting demonstrates an
experiment on theory of projectile motion. In this case, popular article just gives information
about projectile motion, whereas scholarly article reports an experiment results and discusses
the obtained results. Moreover, the scholarly article is written in difficult language including
graphs and charts. However, popular article is written in simple language, which means that
the article is understandable for all auditions. Also, scholarly article in this case has a
bibliography demonstrating their credits to other authors. [7][8]
