CHRISTIAN SEASONS

Advent Year A (November 27 - December 18, 2016) starting four weeks before Christmas,
tells of the coming (or advent) of Jesus.

Christmas (December 25, 2016 - January 5, 2017) tells of his birth.

Epiphany (and Ordinary Time until Lent) (January 6 - March 4, 2017) starts with the
Manifestation to the Gentileswhen three wise men from the Orient came to see the baby
Jesusand proceeds through key moments in Jesuss life.

Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras (February 28, 2017)

Ash Wednesday (March 1, 2017)

Lent (March 5 - April 15, 2017) calling to mind the Hebrews 40 years of wilderness
wandering, and Jesuss 40 days of testing in the wildernessare a time of repentance, fasting
and preparation for baptism.

Holy Week (April 9 - 14 [15], 2017) Lent leads up to Holy Week and the death of Jesus

Maundy Thursday (April 13, 2017)

Good Friday (April 14, 2017)

Easter (April 16, 2017) tells of Jesuss resurrection from the dead, his appearance to certain
disciples, and his ascension to God.

Pentecost (June 4, 2017) begins with the Day of Pentecost (concerning the gift of the Holy
Spirit) and is basically a teaching season.
