Lesson idea implementation:

In this lesson, students will be working individually to create a PowerPoint book full of their own illustrations.
The teacher will first introduce the lesson by showing the completed Do you know the time? PowerPoint
linked above. The class will read it together, providing practice and review for reading digital and analog
clocks. As the class has been working on reading both digital and analog clocks, students will be given 5 pieces
of paper with times on a clock or digital clock interface in the top left corner. The time will also include AM
and PM. Students are expected to first read the time, note whether it is AM or PM and then draw a picture
depicting what they might be doing at that time of day.

After all 5 pictures have been created, the teacher will scan the images and upload them. Students will then
place one image per slide and record a narration for the scene. For example The clock reads 5:30 PM. I know
this because the hour hand is on the 5 and the minute hand is on the 6. At 5:30 PM, Daddy gets home from
work and we all eat dinner together. The images must be put in chronological order from morning to night.

For advanced students, you may provide a blank clock and have them draw in the time, as well as the AM or
PM instead of providing it.

After completing the PowerPoint slides and narration, all projects will be posted to the classroom blog for
families to view. This lesson should take approximately 3- 1 hour long sessions, giving students time to create
detailed and colorful pictures for their PowerPoint, and time to create and narrate. Students will be assessed
formally once their narrated presentation is completed. The teacher will grade on creativity of the
illustrations, accuracy of time telling, and creation of the PowerPoint itself.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)
After reviewing and assessing each PowerPoint, the teacher will pick several to showcase. By showing them to
the entire class, the teacher is providing extra review of time telling as well as showcasing students work and
building their confidence.

Students will have the option to review both the teachers Do you know the time? PowerPoint, as well as
their own through the classroom blog. This will be accessible both in the classroom and at home. This
provides extra practice and informed learning.
