Lesson idea implementation: One part of SS1G3: Locate major topographical features of the earths surface,
requires first graders to be able to locate the major oceans of the world on a map. The teacher should
introduce this project through showing the students a map of where the oceans are located as well as
possibly why they are important, what they are used for, and the animals that live in them to spark interest.
This should take approximately thirty minutes each day over the course of a school week since these students
are not familiar with PowerPoint yet and need step by step guidance while maintaining focus.

Upon completion, student learning should be assessed by quizzing the students on which ocean is which
through the use of one of these PowerPoint books. This project differentiates learning through allowing
students to create rather than just observed, also extending the learning level. The lesson should be
concluded through a written formal assessment assuring that the students have a good grasp on labeling the
various oceans on a map. Feedback can be given through correcting their quiz if needed and handing it back.
