Dear EPC friends and family-

Welcome to October! This month comes with many wonderful traditions.
The cool Fall air, great College football, World Communion Sunday, family day at Stewart Farms Corn Maze, the
EPC Stewardship Campaign and the 500th Celebration of the Reformation. We began October worshipping at
table, celebrating World Communion, and learning about all the ministries of Eastminster, including a first look at
the 2018 budget.
On October 8, we will have our annual family day at Stewart Farms. If you have never been, we hope you will join
us this year! Meet at Stewart Farms at 4:00 pm and enjoy an afternoon at the corn maze, pumpkin picking, and
great food and fellowship.
Commitment Sunday will be on October 22. We will worship together and present our pledges for the 2018
Operating and Dream Budget.
This October will mark the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Eastminster will join Christians
around the world to celebrate with Protestant and Reformed Churches through worship, education, and fellowship.
Every day during the month of October leading up to Sunday, October 29, you will receive a daily email with
Reformation Facts.
October is always a busy month, but full of joy and fellowship with the Eastminster family. Come and join in the

Small Group Opportunities
EPC Womens Circles will be starting
a new year of Fellowship and Bible
Study in September. Our 2017-
2018 Horizon Bible Study is entitled
Cloud of Witnesses: The
Community of Christ in Hebrews.
The book of Hebrews is packed with
theology, metaphor, comparison, and spirituality. We
will explore nine major themes and relate them to our
faith tradition and community. Women of all ages are
invited to join us as we seek to nurture our faith through
worship, study, friendship, and outreach.
Evening Circle (Time Change!) will meet this month at
noon on Sunday October 8th at EPC. For more
information, contact pressley@eastminster.com.
Morning Circle will meet Thursday 12th at 10:00 a.m. at
the home of Jane Couch. Beverly George will lead the
discussion. Women are reminded to bring canned corn
and/or toiletries for United Ministries. For more
information, contact carolirick@charter.net.
MENS BREAKFAST
Join the Mens group as they meet for
breakfast every Wednesday at Panera

The Prayer Shawl Ministry
celebrated its first year of service
in February 2017. At that time,
24 shawls had been gifted to
Eastminster members, their
family members or friends for
comfort and support during difficult times and also for a
time of celebration.
Since then, Sharon Flesch and Suzanne Sawan
have joined the shawl prayer group of 8 prayer shawl
sisters. New members are warmly welcomed and much
appreciated. Beginners are tutored one-on-one and
celebrated for their effort and commitment. Todays life
journeys often have new challenges or needs that require
a new focus, so some of the prayer shawl sisters are on
sabbatical, but still support the others with their love and
prayers.
The Morning Womens Bible Circle shares in
the Blessing and Dedication of new prayer shawls by the
laying on of hands while thoughts and prayers for the
Peace of Christ are expressed. As with all ministries to
which Eastminster is committed, members and friends of
the Eastminster congregation are a vital part of the
ministry with their support of prayers, celebration of the
love of God shared by the work of the ministry, time and
money (for yarn, needles, tissue and gift bags).

Adult Ministry

Adult Sunday School Class

Do you wonder why there are so many different
denominations? Why some baptize babies, others baptize
teens or adults? Who is invited to the Lords Table?
All these differences began 500 years ago this October when
Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the
church at Wittenberg. Come join the adult class this fall for
Reformation Roots, a video series exploring just what
happened in 1517, events that led up to it, and why this still
matters to us today. A series of church historians will put the
events and issues in context, and well explore how the 21st
century church is dealing with some of the same themes.
We hope youll join us!

Families In Faith Sunday School Class

The Families in Faith Sunday School class will be
studying a 7-session Adult Faith Formation Course
called Animate: Faith. The session topics include:
God: Faith is a Quest
Religion: Spirituality Is Not Enough

Our Church Nursery
The EPC nursery is growing each and every
Sunday! What an exciting time in the life of our
church family. We are working hard to meet
the needs of each and every family as we
continue to love and care for all our children.
You will soon see a Childcare Communication
Board located right outside of our nursery
rooms. This board will contain helpful
information about nursery and childrens class
procedures, our volunteer schedules, books and
other items you might like to use at home and
information about beginning to worship with
your children in the Sanctuary and how we, at
Eastminster, welcome all Gods children into
the worshipping community.

Senior High Sunday School

All 9th-12th graders are invited to join in a special Sunday School class on Worship, Drama, and the Arts beginning on
Sunday, August 27. We will meet in the Conference Room next to Pressley's office. The class will include Bible study,
painting, prayer, and lots more depending on the interest of the participants. If you would like to assist with this class,

United Ministriess Transformation Walk, Take a
Step, Change a Life fundraiser will occur on Sunday
October 1st starting at Flour Field. Over the three mile
walk you will go by various services agencies in
downtown Greenville. Great way to spend a fall
afternoon and raise funds for United Ministriess

Greenville, SC, OCTOBER 08, 2017 More than 1,000
people from throughout the Upstate and the Midlands are
expected to participate in the SC Upstate Area Out of the
Darkness Community Walk at 2:00 PM at 840 Mauldin
Road, Conestee Park. This fundraising walk supports the
American Foundation for Suicide Preventions local and
national programs and its bold goal to reduce the annual
rate of suicide 20 percent by 2025.
Suicide affects one in five American families. I am
walking to bring awareness to this leading cause of death
and let people in the community know that they are not
alone. There is help out there for those who live with a
mental health condition and support for those who have lost
a loved one to suicide, said Barbara Pressley, Walk
