The document discusses the increasing use of composite materials in engineering and describes composites as materials composed of two or more insoluble constituents that differ in form and composition. It notes composites have two phases - a matrix and fibers, which can be polymers, ceramics or metals. The document focuses on epoxy matrix composites reinforced with banana fibers, produced at varying fiber weight percentages and tested for mechanical properties like tensile, compression, impact and flexural strength as well as chemical and water resistance. Finite element analysis was conducted using ANSYS to analyze deflection and stress distribution under loads.

The use of composite materials in engineering field by is
increasing day by day.
A composite is a material system composed of a
combination of two or more micro or macro constituents that differ in form and chemical composition and which are essentially insoluble in each other.
It consists of mainly two phases i.e. Matrix and Fiber.
The fibers may be either polymers, ceramics, metals such as nylon, glass, graphite, Aliuminium oxide, boron, aluminum etc.Now a days Jute, Coir, Silk, Banana, Bamboo, fibers and animal feathers are also utilized as a fibers. In the present work epoxy is used as matrix and Banana fibers are used as fibers for producing the composites. The specimens are produced by varying the weight percentage of fiber. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength, compression strength, impact strength and flexural strength are evaluated. Its resistance to chemicals and water is also tested. By using the above properties the deflection and stress distribution under various loads are analyzed by using ANSYS software.
