PREFACE.
T his volumo is issued under tte directions contained in th o GoTSrnment
of India, Homo Department, letter No. 3375, d a te d , the 1st October 1902.
The lines on which the revision of District Gazetteers is to be undertaken are
there laid* down as follows:

Instead of issuing the tables with inter-lcavod blank pages as suggested
in pava. (5)tibovo, it baa been found convcniont to p rin t tho tables themselves
with blank spaces in which to insert the figures of future years. The paoes
occupied l)y the statistical m atter thus iiiolude the space which in the oritdnal
ecbeme would have been fjpprofii'iated by the iuter-leaved pages, aud con
sequently are iu e.vcesa of tiie maximum fixed in para. (5).
