LESSON PLAN HPE 1202

LESSON ORGANISATION (based on Australian Curriculum: Health & Physical Education)

Intention:

Pre-lesson organisation: Ensure all equipment is in good condition, with balls pumped, bibs in colour coordinated piles
and cones are in colour coordinated piles. Break the classes up into separate groups prior to the lesson.

Equipment:
16 x Footballs
4 x Different colour bibs
Cones
16x Flag belts and flags

8:30 Beginning class organisation: Bring all students into a stationary point with them facing away from the sun, give a brief
introduction to the lesson and discuss what skills will be covered.

Give a brief overview of classroom management rules which are as followed:

1 whistle means stop, look and listen.
2 whistles mean change of drill, therefore come into a stationary position designated by the teacher (ensure students
face away from the sun).
3 whistles mean end of class, pack up all equipment and place it behind the teacher then sit down in groups in front of
the teacher (teacher must position themselves so that the students are facing away from the sun).

Introduce the warm up and give instructions to students to help set up the field, get 4 students to take a cone and place it down
2 10 steps out from the meeting point. Field should end up looking like this: red markers indicate the cones, red manikins indicate
mins the students asked to help set up the field, blue manikins indicates the teacher and the yellow manikins indicates where the
students are required to sit, the stationary position is inside this square.

8:32 Warm up: Flag Tag
The aim of this warm up is to focus on
evasion type skills, students will be
given a flag belt with one flag to
attach. The defender (the teacher) will
attempt to rip the flag off the students
belt and placing it on the ground. Once
this has happened that student
become another tagger. The process
repeats until every student has had
their flag ripped off.
Some rules however apply, these rules
are as followed:
The flag must be placed on
the sides of the belt, either the
right or left hip bones.
The defender must not throw
the flag on the floor, they must
stop and place the flag.
Spins are not allowed as it
poses a safety risk.
If a student steps out of
bounds they must flag
themselves and become a
defender.

- Add in the extra cones to create the design of the drill as displayed below (this includes adding 4 cones in the middle)
- Make sure all footballs are in a pile next to the playing area
- This should be done when everyone is taking off their tags and putting them away
- Get students to be sitting in front of the teacher
- Give an explanation of how the drill is run
- Label at random everyone 1-4 (this is the allocation as to what square they are in) prior to this explain the square

- There should be about 4 people in each square and get one person in the square to be the defender (this person needs
to be wearing a bib)
- Slowly demonstrate the activity (with the defender being passive)
- Once the ball has made it through the entire of the squares, the defender can do a touch tackle

 Drill 1: HANDBALLING WITH A
DEFENDER
- 6 squares of cones are set up, as
displayed in the picture
- In each square are 4 attackers
and 1 defender
- The defender is to be wearing a
bib
- Starting from the first square and
working clockwise, each team is
to make 1 pass to everyone in the
square and then pass on the ball
to the next square (including the
defender)
- After a couple of balls haves gone
through every square the
defender will influence play by
trying to shut down the ball in the
square before everyone has a
touch of the ball
- If the ball is intercepted by the
defender/ or touched then they
have to start again with their
touches

- When the teacher blows their whistle the game has commenced

Drill 2: HANDBALLING IN A GAME
SITUATION added pressure
- Two teams are selected (one

- Teams select a catcher who

- The game is started with a ball up

Players use handball only to pass
