Lesson idea implementation: The topic of recycling will be introduced as the class discusses Earth Day. The
day will start out with a short Brain Pop video explaining what recycling is and what we are able to recycle. As
the video ends the class will discuss how recycling can have a positive impact on the world. As we wrap up the
discussion about recycling the teacher will introduce a persuasive recycling video that they will create using
Brian Pop that will be published on Brain Pop at the end of the unit.
Students will be grouped up into groups of four to create a persuasive video about recycling by using the
make a movie option on Brain Pop. This project will be competed over a period of a week and will be graded
on how long the video is (must be a minimum of five minutes), how many facts on recycling they find (must
have a minimum of twelve facts), and lastly the quality of the video. I will differentiate this video by allowing
ESOL students to have a minimum of seven facts in their video as well as extra time to work on the video. For
the advanced students I will require them to have a minimum of 15 facts in their video as well as a minimum
of five minutes for the video. I will conclude this lesson by letting all of the students watch their videos
together in class.
