(2) Basic greetings 2

2017 7 24 Takahiro

Id like to introduce few more greetings which are frequently

used.

Phrases:
(oyasumi), (oyasumi nasai)

good night

(hajimemashite)

nice to meet you

(sumimasen)

excuse me

(gomennasai), (sumimasen)
sorry

Good night has 2 forms. (oyasumi nasai) is

polite, (oyasumi) is casual.

You might wonder why (sumimasen) appears

twice. Actually, we say (sumimasen) when
mentioning both of excuse me and sorry.

If you go to a restaurant or cafe in Japan, you should ask

waiter/waitress to come to you. In that case, you can just
say (sumimasen).

When you bump into somebody not on purpose, then you can
also say (sumimasen) or
(gomennasai) which means sorry.
