Bank of England Digital Content Editor

Ala Anvari

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to offer my candidacy for the role of Digital Content Editor, for which I believe I have a good
combination of skills and experience to contribute.

I write excellent copy, have a masters degree in Creative Writing (Screenwriting), and have worked in three
roles involving content copy writing and proof-reading.

I spent nine months proof-reading highly technical documents (patents) translated from Japanese to English.
Later I spent several months freelance translating patents into plain English, which had to be accessible and
fun for a lay audience. I also spent some time writing quiz questions for an Icelandic company that marketed a
successful quiz app.

I have learnt that clarity, nuance, and simplicity must all be present and balanced to achieve good plain
English.

A good example of plain English is the BoEs publication Money creation in the modern
Economy which I downloaded several months ago as I maintain an interest in finance and economics
despite only getting a C at A-Level, maybe because I worked for a financial software company at one stage.

I am very detail oriented and have had good practice at spotting proverbial needles in haystacks through both
my technical and legal work, including experience of detail-critical Data Entry work. I am used to both
individual and team-work and supporting colleagues whether on academic, personal or professional projects.

I have also worked with Content Management Systems (i.e. Wordpress) and am familiar with blogging and
social media. I have high proficiency with MS Office, in particular Excel, which I have developed through the
course of many years use, both professionally and in hobby projects (detailed on CV).

More recently I have been drafting legal bills for solicitors using DPS, Costs Master and Excel, with which I
extensively augmented a Legal Aid Claim1/Claim 11 Ledger system to provide real time estimates of the full bill
broken down in to routine and non-routine work, profit costs, barristers' fees etc. and computing possible
enhancement scope for fees. This also involved writing summaries of case histories, for submission to court.

During university I had a year in industry being the lead responsible for a project management data
warehouse (Niku/ABT) and had experience for the full oversight of the system, including timesheets, preparing
reports and presenting them to stakeholders, and even low-level correction in the underlying database
occasionally when things went wrong.

I have attached my CV for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Ala Anvari.
