and we became friends. One day, I saw a mark in the
snow. It was from Paps boot, so I knew he wasnt dead.

He locked me in the cabin when he went into town. One
day, I escaped. I made it look as though robbers had got
into the cabin and I shot a pig and dragged it to the river so
that it would look as though I had been murdered. I got in a
little boat and went to Jacksons Island.
People from the town thought I was dead. They were
looking for my body. I stayed on Jacksons Island where I
was safe. One day, I found Jim on the island! He had run
away because Miss Watson wanted to sell him. We made
camp on the island. We found lots of things floating down
the river, like a raft, and even a house! Inside the house
were lots of clothes and tools. There was a dead man in
there, too, but Jim wouldnt let me look at him. I found a
dress in the floating house, so I decided to dress up as a girl
and go into town to get the latest news.

had been murdered and that everyone thought Jim was the
murderer because he ran away on the same day. There was a
reward for Jim, and people thought he was hiding on Jacksons
Island, so her husband was going there at midnight with a gun.
I hurried back to the island and Jim and I escaped on the raft.
We sailed down the Mississippi. We planned to go down
the river to Cairo, get some money, then come back up the river
on a steamboat. Jim wanted to go to the free states where he
would be free, so that he could free his wife and children. But
one night, it was very foggy, and we went past Cairo. Then, a
steamboat hit our raft and we had to jump into the river!
We fixed the raft and carried on down the river. One
day, we heard shouting and two men ran towards the river.
They had been trying to cheat the people in the town, and
everyone wanted to catch them. They came onto our raft. The
older man said that he was the King of France, and the
younger man said that he was the Duke of Bridgewater. Jim
and I knew that they were liars, but we didnt know how to
get rid of them. The King and the Duke decided to act out
scenes from Shakespeare in the riverside towns to make some
money, but they were bad actors and no one liked them.

The older man said that he could prove it because Peter had
a blue mark on his chest. Dr Robinson said that they would
dig Peter up again to find out which of the brothers were
lying. They found the gold in the coffin and knew that the
King and the Duke were lying. I ran back to the raft and
tried to escape, but I wasnt fast enough. The King and the
Duke caught up with me.
We continued to sail down the river until one morning, I
woke up late. Jim was gone! The Duke told me that the
King had taken him into town to sell him, so I decided to
go and look for him. A boy in town told me that Silas Phelps
had bought the slave, so I went to his farm. When I arrived,
a woman called me Tom Sawyer and said that she had
been expecting me! The Phelps were Toms aunt and uncle! I
told them that I had to go back into town to get my suitcase,
and I found Tom on the road. He said that I should pretend
to be him, and he would pretend to be his brother, Sid.
We found Jim in a shed. I wanted to rescue him that
night, but Tom said we should do it in style. We brought Jim
snakes and rats to keep as pets like a real prisoner and told
him he had to stay there for a week, then escape wearing
one of Aunt Sallys dresses. Tom wrote a letter to Silas, telling
him that someone was going to steal Jim, then that night, we
went into the shed and got Jim. We tried to run to the raft,

shot, and Jim told me to go and get help while he stayed
