Subtraction is the inverse of addition. If in the addition the sum become bigger, but in
subtraction the sum become smaller. Unlike the addition, this subtraction is not
commutative. So the order of numbers in the operation will change the results. The
result is called the difference between two numbers. There are so many algorithm of
subtraction being used in wide world. Some of them are trade first, left to right
subtraction, counting up, partial differences and same change rules. Traditional
mathematics taught in elementary school children to subtract suing methods suitable
for hand calculation.
Example of Addition Activity Using 2digit Numbers.
Using paper-and-pencil
Whenever we use the standard algorithm and there are 10 or more tens, we need to
regroup the 10 tens into 1 ten and then add the tens. If there are 10 or more tens, we
regroup the 10 tens to make 1 hundred and then add the hundreds, regrouping as
needed. This process continues for as many digits as there are in the addends.
Question:
17+24=
Since this is two-digits number, so the number should be arranges by taking the right
side is ones, and counting as tens in the next column left. That means, 7 and 4 is in
the ones category. The order when being arrange is shown below.

so, after the algorithm had been used, we can get the answer easily. When 17 is
added by 24, the answer is 41.
17+ 24 = 41

24
The two numbers are shown in the modelled with base-ten blocks. Use the ten-base
blocks to find the sum of the two numbers and write an equation to record the
addition.
