Easy Sew Draft Dodger
Easy Sew Draft Dodger
Ward off winter chills with a colorful patchwork draft dodger stuffed with recycled towels or T-
shirts.
Supplies
1/8 yard each of 21 coordinating cotton fabrics or one jelly roll of 2 1/2" strips
All-purpose thread
Prep It
Wash the towels, T-shirts or socks in hot water to eliminate possible shrinkage. Dry on the
highest heat setting available, fold and set aside.
Sew It
Place each strip right side up on a flat work surface. Arrange each strip as desired, aligning the
long edges.
With right sides together, pin the left-most strips along the long edge. Stitch using a 1/4" seam
allowance, backstitching at the strip beginning and end. Press open the seam.
Pin the adjacent strip to the pieced strip with right sides together (1).
Stitch the long edge using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press open the seam. Repeat to stitch one
14"x42 1/2" rectangle consisting of all 21 strips.
Tip: Measure your windows to create smaller draft dodgers that fit. Add or omit 2 1/2" strips as
needed to achieve the required length.
Fold the panel in half lengthwise with right sides together, matching the strip seams. Pin the
long raw edge (2).
Stitch the upper edge leaving a 9" centered opening for turning (3).
Roll up the towel, T-shirts or socks and stuff the tube through the opening.
Tip: Use a large towel for stuffing and trim it to fit the finished tube.
