Why Portugal?

Undergraduate programs (1st cycle - Licenciatura) in Portugal can be found in a wide range of higher
education institutions. In order to attend an undergraduate program in Portugal, you must have a
high school diploma or the equivalent, perform the national final exams of secondary education
corresponding entrance exams required to apply to the specific courses students wish to attend, as
well as meet additional requirements.
For students who hold a foreign Secondary School Leaving Certificate equivalent to the Portuguese
secondary education, the entrance exams can be replaced by final exams of those courses.
The national contest takes place at the end of the school year and is organized into three phases.
Students can apply to all three phases of the contest. The application for higher education is held
exclusively online.
The academic year in a Portuguese college runs from September until July.
There are a number of other higher education programs that you can select from and obtain your first
cycle degree (Licenciatura), although those listed above are among the most popular study areas.
