Western Avenue Community Center
This resource is specifically for low-income, at
risk children in grades K-5. WACC is an after
school program that focuses on providing
positive social and emotional mentoring. Their
main academic goals are for students to be
reading on grade level and for students to be
promoted to the next grade level. WACC gives
children a snack when they arrive, 20 minutes
minimum daily reading time, homework time,
enrichment activities, and free time.
WACC allows tutors to guide children
with their reading in a one-on-one format for
K-3 students. Students in grades 4 and 5 focus
more independently during reading and
homework time with a three- to four-on-one
ratio for students.

Heartland Community College resides in

division offers a variety of literacy programs and

reading program focuses on building basic
reading skills aimed at improving student?s ability
to read a variety of texts . HCC also boasts an
extensive writing composition sequence, and
provides all students access to a writing center.
Kingsley Jr. High School
Kingsley Jr.High is a Jr. High for 6th graders
through 8th graders in Bloomington Normal.

The unity community center offers a
positive and well structured learning
environment for students ages 5-18. This
program provides out of scholol assistance
for youths who have very limited resources.
The community center offers students
programs such as tutoring, computer lab
time, civic engagement, enrichment
classess, and future leaders workshops.
There are enough activities for the
students that everyone can get involved in
and participate. In addition the community
center also offers a summer enrichment
camp that goes for 7 weeks which starts
