An accountant is one of the most important parts of an organization. Accountants play a vital
role; they can either make or break a company especially because they are the ones who deal
with analyzing and checking accounts. I feel that I portray these qualities and more to become a
successful accountant. I, Kiliah Longsworth want to become an accountant in one of the top
accounting firms in America.

Skills and Responsibilities of an accountant

As an accountant I will have to go through a recruitment and qualification process when

applying for a job so that the employers can see if I portray these certain skills:

Self-motivated
Honesty
Analytical
Able to work collaboratively
Good communication skills
High level of numeracy

Accountants specialize in particular areas of practice including auditing, and corporate finance. I
will have a very wide range of responsibilities including:

Preparing accounts and tax returns

Inspect account books and accounting system to keep up to date
Organize and maintain financial records
Improve business efficiency where money is concern

Opportunities as an accountant

As accountant I will have many opportunities that include that with my degree I will have a wide
range of career paths to choose from such as Public accountant, management accountant, internal
auditor or even an accounting technician, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officer.
Mainly Certified Public Accountants work in the auditing department reviewing the financial
statements and records of Corporations, certifying that theyre accurate. Their salary in medium
size firm is between $81,750 and $106,500. Public accountant are also known as corporate
accounting, Public Accountants salary is roughly around $41750 to $51,500 per year. Chief
Executive Officer with five to ten years experience can expect to earn an average total
compensation of $154,000.Chief Financial Officer is between $315,947 and $474,515 per year.

My Career and Preparations

In the next 5-10 years, I will have accomplished all my goals and aspirations such as completing
my bachelors in Accounting and then completing my Masters and PH.D.in accounting and also
to take and pass my exams that are required to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Being CPA allows me to either open up my accounting firm or worked for another accounting
firm anywhere across the world. I would like to work at Coye and Associates or PKF to do my
internship so that I may gain experience and knowledge. After accomplishing everything i want
to be employed at one of the Top Accounting Firms in New York City, starting as a regular
accountant earning about $96,570 US yearly. Later work my way up to become either a Chief
Financial Officer.

I have recently graduated from Saint Johns College Junior College with Associates in
Accounting and a GPA of 3.33. Now currently attending the University of Belize pursuing my
Bachelors in Accounting. To pursue my Masters and PHD, attend University of Texas,
McCombs School of Business. Then study to become a Certified Public Accountant.
