ENGLISH MEDIEVAL ARCHITECTURE

The architectural character divided into 6 periods

Anglo-Saxon

Norman style

Vaulting and decoration are simple

There is little sign of the elaborate stonework to come.

The structures have the thick piers Rounded window openings of the earlier Romanesque style.

Early English gothic

Became truly adapted by English architects the LANCET and FIRST POINTED STYLE

Richly colored stained glass Increased use of bricks

PERPENDICULAR gothic

Its verticality is especially noticeable in the design of its enlarged windows, with slimmer stone mullions
than in previous periods, allowing greater opportunity and scope for stained glass craftsmen.

TUDOR STYLE

It is the final development of Medieval Architecture in England, during the Tudor period (14851603)
and even beyond, and also the tentative introduction of Renaissance architecture to England.
