JOB DESCRIPTION

1. POST DETAILS

TEAM: Milestone House Scale 4/5

JOB TITLE: Emergency Accommodation Support Worker

2. PURPOSE OF POST

To assist in delivering the accommodation support and activities service in


Milestone House, the emergency accommodation provision for single
homeless customers our, ensuring quality of service and continuous
improvement for customers.

To ensure all policies, procedures and systems are complied with.

Work with partners, local community and customers to establish and


maintain good relations and improve service experience overall.

4. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To be part of a team of staff covering shifts at the emergency


accommodation provision based at Milestone House.

2. To be aware of Derby Homes communications policies and to ensure


that relevant communication is maintained at all levels for efficient and
effective working.

3. To maintain professional boundaries in line with Derby Homes policy,


in particular, in all dealings with service users, potential service users
and past service users.

4. To maintain a high quality customer service focus in all aspects of the
role.

5. Ensure that appropriate needs, risk assessments and support plans


are completed and reviewed within the procedural time frames.

6. To carry out support services for customers to promote positive


engagement and progression towards resettlement and move on.

7. To ensure that customers within the emergency accommodation


understand the terms of their tenure and their rights and
responsibilities.

8. Remain alert to any issues that may occur, report any incidents or
issues and follow the appropriate procedures.

9. To seek to provide an environment which is supportive and provides


an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness and to undertake
other appropriate practical caring tasks. These might include:
cleaning and tidying customers rooms, making and changing beds,
cleaning of exceptionally dirty areas, preparing drinks and meals,
preparing soiled laundry for laundering.

10. To engage service users to assist in completing general daily tasks in


working towards their move on and resettlement, such as; cleaning
communal areas; keeping their rooms to a hygienic and suitable
standard; emptying bins and sorting recyclables; using laundry
facilities.

11. Assist in supervising and/or supporting any volunteers on duty.

12. Take part in a rota for conducting initial Assessments and complete
any necessary paperwork and referring to appropriate
accommodation/service providers to agreed procedures.

13. Ensure customer files and information systems are maintained and up
to date, and all paperwork and computerised database systems are
completed as necessary.

14. Take part in providing training, guidance and support on day-to-day


activities that develop skills and abilities for independent living. (e.g.
budgeting, cooking, cleaning, paying bills, looking after health and
well being, giving and receiving respect, etc).

15. Encourage service users to keep a personal diary/record of


achievement.

16. Provide advocacy and practical assistance in maximising the


customers income, e.g., help with completing benefit claims and
checking the required documentation/evidence that accompanies the
claim as appropriate. Ensure the service user is fully aware of the
stages for completion of e.g. benefit forms to improve their future

ability to carry this out independently.

17. Liaise with other accommodation providers on an ongoing basis and


make appropriate referrals to enable active move on.

18. Liaise with other service providers to ensure the health, well being
and positive progression for the service users needs and aspirations
(e.g. drug/alcohol/GP/counselling/education

19. Where any complaints are received ensure that the complainant has
received the relevant information about our procedure, and that the
line manager is informed promptly and appropriately.

20. MONITORING
Ensure appropriate monitoring is undertaken as per procedures
and polices.
Complete administrative paperwork to agreed deadlines or
procedures.
Report on all relevant matters to the appropriate manager and
ensure any issues are communicated to other staff/volunteers as
necessary.

21. Comply with all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

22. Participate in Derby Homes Job Chat Scheme.

23. Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the Equalities


Policies of Derby Homes.

24. Comply with all existing and any new Personnel Policies and
Practices implemented by Derby Homes.

25. Work with new technology including any computerised systems


operated by Derby Homes.

26. Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the grading and
level of the post.
