reading the story, brainstorm with students
the different feelings that they had about
coming to school. Black and white and
color printables are included to create a
bubble map or use the blanks to create
your own! A sheet for students to complete
afterwards, describing how they felt about
the first day of school is also included.

After reading, create a bubble map
brainstorming different feelings that
students had about coming to school (you
can create your own or use the printables
provided). Then, provide students with the,

and have them write how they felt. They or
you can then trace their hand into the box
and have them draw a heart in the palm.
You can also use paper or felt hearts, if
you would like! Students can color the
raccoon when they are finished!
