Keep the picture tube away from the body while handling 2. When service is required, an isolation transformer should be inserted between power line and the receiver before any service Is performed on the chassis. 3. When replacing chassis in the cabinet, ensure all the protective devices are put back in place, such as barriers, ‘non-metalc knobs, adjustments and compartment cover Or shields, isolation resistor-capacitor, oo. 4. When service is required, observe the original lead dressing. Extra precaution should be taken to assure correct lead dressing in the high voltage cicultry area. Particularly note R.G.B. lead dressing. Ensure they are dressed well away from the horizontal scan and FET circuitry 5. Always use the manufacturer's replacement component. ‘Always replace original spacers and. maintain lead lengths. Especially ccal components ar indicated thus ‘Zs on the pars list and should not be replaced by other ‘makes. Furthermore where a shor circut has occurred, replace those components that indicate evidence of overheating 6. Betore retuming a serviced receiver othe customer, the service technician must thoroughly test the unit 10 be Certain that tis completely safe to operate without danger of electric shock, and be sure that no protective device built into the instrument by the manufacturer has become defective, or inadvertently damaged during servicing Therefore, the folowing checks are recommenced forthe continued protection of the customers and service technicians. INSULATION Insulation resistance should not be less than 10M 9 at 500V OC between the mains poles and any accessible metal parts, ‘Also no flashover or breakdown should occur during the dielectric strength test applying 3kV AC or 4.25kV DC for two seconds between the main poles and accessible metal parts. PARKING POSITION CPT 25/2808 1. Remove cabinet back, then unscrew chassis from the cabinet by removing the two screws holding the chassis, moulding to the cabinet moulding. 2, Remove scan coil plug leads, and degaussing plug leads, from the cable tie around degaussing coils. ‘3. Next remove focus lead, screen lead, and C.R.T. braiding earth lead, from cable tie around scan plug leads, close to CAT. base, 4. Insert one of the screws removed from the chassis ‘moulding into the top bracket on the right hand side of the cabinet, (see diagram) and tighten slightly. Note: On the larger models e.g. CPT2808, use the bracket second ‘rom the top. 5. Remove the mains lead clamp retainer from the cabinet, then lift the chassis through $0 degrees, slotting the moulding onto the screw. Tighten the screw fully to ensure stability. 7. When service completed, unscrew the chassis moulding and return the chassis to the cabinet, ensuring that all leads are correctly dressed, and returned to their respective cable ties. Note: For Parking position of CPT 21/2538 madalecnrynane 2. HIGH VOLTAGE High voltage should always be kept at rated value of the chassis and no higher. Operating at higher voltage may ‘cause a failure of the picture tube or high voltage supply and, also, under certain circumstances could produce X-radiation ‘moderately in excess of design levels. The high voltage must ‘ot, under any circumstances, exceed 27kV on the chassis. X-RADIATION ‘TUBES: The primary source of X-radiation in this receiver is the picture tube. The tube utilised for the above mentioned function in this chassis is specially constructed to limit Xradiation. For continued X-radiation protection, replace tube with the same type as the original HITACHI approved type. PRODUCT SAFETY NOTICE ‘Many electrical and mechanical parts in HITACH] television receivers have special safety related characteristics. These characteristics are often not evident from visual inspection hor can the protection afforded by them necessarily be ‘obtained by using replacement components rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc. Replacement parts which have these ‘special safety characteristics are identified by marking with a A\on the schematics and replacement parts list in this Service Manual. ‘The use of a substitute replacement component which does Not have the same safety characteristics as the HITACHI recommended replacement one, shown in the parts list in this Service Manual, may create electric shock, fire, X- radiation, or other hazards. Product Safety is continuously under review and new instructions are issued from time to time. For the latest information, always consult the current HITACHI Service Manual. A subscription to, or additional copies of HITACHI ‘Service Manuals, may be obtained at a nominal charge from your HITACHI SALES CORPORATION, TUBE DISCHARGE ‘The line output stage can develop voltages in excess of 25K V; if the E-H.T. cap is required to be removed, discharge the anode cap to chassis via a high value resistor, prior to its removal from the tube. SCREW, chassis, 10 BRACKET —~] Chassis, MOULOING G7P MK2 DESCRIPTION This chassis has a power supply and time base circuit virtually identical to the MK1 chassis. The main changes to the signal board are a new control IC, type HD401304, and ‘a new switching IC, type HA11508. There is also additional circuitry, i.e. 0401-0404, added to the sound stages to ‘create a surround sound effect. IC101 type HD401304, is a microprocessor which controls all the analogue levels, gives an on-screen display output, ‘controls the tuning voltage, processes commands from the remote control handset, enables teletext operation and programme selection. ‘A 4NMHz oscillator consisting of X101, C108, C109, is applied to pins 2 and 3 to control all the IC modes of operation. From switch on the IC must be brought out of its standby Condition and reset to intialise start values. When the mains switch is operated, a transient switch comes into circuit briefly and applies +5 volts to pin 11 of IC101. This operates an internal flip flop circuit, which will then output a low from pin 13. This low is applied via F121 to the base of Q905 on the power supply and time base circuit, causing Q905 to become non conducting. Q904 will thus become operational ‘and supplies + 12V to power the horizonal stages of IC70". In this manner E.H.T. is generated, and the receiver will become fully operational, Q101 stage resets the intial start levels of IC101. As the +5V rises from switch on, C114 will charge and appiies a voltage to the base of Q101 via A110, turning it on. This will pull pin 41 of IC101 low, thus causing the IC to reset. Once C114 has charged, the voltage to Q101 base is removed and it will become’ non conducting, thus releasing the reset condition of the IC. During the search tuning routine, the mark/space ratio output {rom pin 42 changes, and is applied to Q102 base via F133. ‘The collector voltage will be chopped as the transistor turns off and on, with the resultant average voltage being intergrated and filtered by R135/C122, R136/C123. This voltage is applied to the VT terminal of the tuner as the variable tuning voltage. Once a signal is obtained, it is applied to Q107 base via 201 and A143. 107 stage ‘creates a sync. pulse and applies it to IC101 pin 8. Itis the presence of this sync. pulse that indicates to the IC that a signal has been located. AF.C. tracking is performed on this chassis to ensure ‘accurate tuning. During the tuning procedure, pin 29 of IC101 will give a high output which is applied to’ Q103 base via F116. This will turn the transistor on, pulling 0101 cathode low, thus bringing ZD102 into circuit, Q103 conducting causes Q104 to turn on, and this will supply a voltage via R115 to ZD102 which is limited to approximately 7V by 2D102/0101. This voltage is applied to the VT terminal of the tuner via the network R204-7, R201-03, and enables accurate tuning to be achieved. Once the tuning is set the high output at pin 29 is removed, thus turning off Q103 and Q104, Should the tuning voltage drift, a corrective voltage is fed from IC201 pin 5 and applied to the VT terminal of the tuner via the resistor network described previously. This swinging corrective voltage ensures a stabilized tuning voltage is maintained. If [C101 receives commands to alter contrast, colour, brightness or volume, it will result in changes to the outputs of pins 33, 34, 35 or 36. The changes in contrast, colour, ‘and brightness levels, are passed to the relevant pins of 1C501 as the controling voltages. The change in volume level is passed on to the base of Q105 via R129. This will either ‘cause the transistor to conduct more or jess, resulting in.a collector voltage change which is applied to pin 12 of [C402 via 1131 and F2108. itis this changing voltage which controls, the gain of IC402 and therefore the volume level. ‘The on-screen display outputs are made available from pins. 17 and 18. The position of the display on the screen is determined by the oscillator components C106/R158 on pin 20, and by the horizontal and vertical inputs at pins 14 and 16. The red and green outputs from pins 17 and 18 are applied to the bases of Q108 and 109 emitter followers, then input via 141/022, R142/C821 to pins 12 and 14 of IC501. Whenever the red and green signals are made available from pins 17 and 18 of C101, pin 19 will apply a low to Q106 base via R157. The transistor wil then turn off, ‘and a high voltage is applied to IC501 pin 9 via R160, R175, In this manner, a portion of the screen is blanked off by the voltage on pin 9 of IC501, and the red and green on-screen display signals are inserted into that position. ‘The sound stages consisting of IC401 type TBA120U, IC402 type ANS836 and IC403 type LA4270 are similar in operation to the G7P MK1. The audio signal from pin 12 of IC401 is input to pins 14 and 17 of IC301, then ouput from pins 15 and 16, The two signals are then applied to pins 6 and 9 of IG402 via R451/C407, R452/C408 for further processing and amplification. The cutput signals from pins 15 and 16 ‘of 1C301 are also applied to the bases of Q401/0402 to create a surround effect. When the surround button on the handset is pressed, IC101 will give a high output from pin 9. This is applied to Q404 base via R122 and will turn the transistor on. Q403 (which is the bias contro!) will then operate, thus turning on the differential amplifiers Q401, 0402, The ouputs at the collectors of Q401, 0402, will then be added to the original sound signals via C436, C437 to create a surround effect output from the speakers, N.B. The surround sound function will only operate when “TRUE” stereo signals are being received, e.g, input from a stereo video/disc player via the 21 pin peri socket. When IC101 receives the standby command, the internal tip flop will output a high from pin 13. This is applied via R121 to the base of Q905, turning it on and pulling the base of (2904 low. This will result in the + 12V supply to IC701 being removed, and therefore the E.H.T. circuits will cease 10 operate, ‘hence placing the receiver into it's standby condition, 1C301, type HA 11508, consists of an array of switches which will pass the audio and video signals trom the TV or auxillary equipment, to the output stages for further amplification and processing. In the TV mode for example, the vision signal from Q20i emitter is input to pin 7 of IC301, then emerges at pin 9 and is applied to the base of emitter follower Q302. From there the chrominance and luminance components are extracted and applied to pins 4 and 8 of IC501. In the auxillary mode the state of the internal switches changes, land the vision signal fram pin 20 of EXT1 socket is applied to pin 3 of IC301, then output at pin 9 for further processing as described previously. in this auxillary mode the audio signals are fed from EXT1 pins 2 and 6, then input to pins. 19 and 18 of IC301. The audio signals emerge from pins 15 and 16, from where they are applied to the sound output stages of IC402, 1C403. When equipment supplying RGB data insertion is used. a high output is applied to D301 cathode trom pin 16 of EXT? 10301 will then become non conducting, causing the base voltage of emitter follower 304 to rise via R338. This rise is then applied to pin 9 of IC501 via R532. This operates the internal data switch, which prevents the luminance and cchrominance signals of the IC from reaching the RGB output stages. RGB data insertion s then input topins 12, 14, and 46 of IC501 from pins 15, 11 and 17 of EXT1, then output to the CRT base from pins 13, 15 and 17 of the IC. ‘There are two switching control voltages applied to this IC, and both originate from IC101 at pins 27 and 28. In the TV ‘mode of operation both voltages are high, but when the VTR. button on the handset is pressed, pin 28 of [C101 will go low, and this is applied to pin 8 of IC301 thereby changing the mode of the internal switches to accept inputs from EXT socket. ‘An extra 21 pin socket can be added in future it deemed necessary. I used, a high voltage from EXT2 socket will be applied to pin 7 of iC101, and this will result in pin 27 going low. This low will then be applied to pin 4 of IC301, changing the mode of the internal switches to pass inputs from EXT2 socket to the audio and video output stages.
