Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little -
Half of it - or subtract from it a little
Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with
measured recitation.

And remember the name of your Lord and
devote yourself to Him with [complete]
devotion.
[He is] the Lord of the East and the West;
there is no deity except Him, so take Him
as Disposer of [your] affairs.
The most beloved of prayer to Allah is
the prayer of Dawud, and the most
beloved of fasts to Allah is the fast of
Dawud. He used to sleep for half of the
night, then get up and pray for a third
of the night, then sleep for a sixth of
the night, and he used to fast every
other day.

(Agreed upon).
"If you want something in your
life and you aren't praying
tahajjud for it then in reality you
don't really want it."
Sh. Saleh Al Munajjid
The degree to which a person is helped and
aided by Allaah depends on the degree of
his intention, drive, aim and hopes. Help
from Allaah comes to people in proportion
to their drive, intention, hopes and fears,
and failure comes to them in like manner.
Sad ibn Hishaam ibn Aamir said to Aaishahd : Tell me
about how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) prayed qiyaam. She said: Have you
not read Yaa ayyuhal-muzzammil (O you wrapped in
your garments!)? He said, Of course. She said: Allah,
may He be exalted and glorified, made qiyaam obligatory
at the beginning of this soorah, so the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions
prayed qiyaam for a year, and Allah withheld the end of
this soorah for twelve months, until He revealed
something at the end of this soorah to make things
easier, so qiyaam al-layl became voluntary after it had
been obligatory.
(Reported by Muslim).
The best of prayers after the prescribed
prayers is prayer in the depths of the
night, and the best of fasting after the
month of Ramadan is fasting the month
of Allah, Muharram.

(reported by Muslim).
The closest that the Lord is to His slave is
in the later part of the night, so if you
can be one of those who remember
Allah at that time, then do so.

(Reported by al-Tirmidhi and al-Nisaa'i).

There is a reason for his lying on his right
side, which is that the heart is located on
the left, so if a person lays on his left side,
he will sleep too deeply, because the hearts
position will be too comfortable, but if he
sleeps on his right side, he will not be too
settled, so he wont sleep deeply.
Purify these bodies and Allah will purify
you, for there is no slave who goes to
sleep in a state of purity but an angel
spends the night with him, and every
time he turns over, [the angel] says, O
Allah, forgive Your slave, for he went to
bed in a state of purity.

(Reported by al-Tabaraani)
Take a nap, for the shayaateen do not
take naps.

(Reported by al-Tabaraani. Al-Saheehah, 2647)

And be patient over what they say and
avoid them with gracious avoidance.
And leave Me with [the matter of] the
deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow
them respite a little.
Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and

On the Day the earth and the mountains
will convulse and the mountains will
become a heap of sand pouring down.
Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as
a witness upon you just as We sent to
Pharaoh a messenger.
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so
We seized him with a ruinous seizure.

Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills
may take to his Lord a way.
Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you
stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or
half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those
with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the
night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims]
will not be able to do it and has turned to you in
forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the
Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you
those who are ill and others traveling throughout the
land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allah and
others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what
is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakah
and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you
put forward for yourselves - you will find it with
Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek
forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and
Merciful.

Whoever recites ten ayat in qiyam will
not be recorded as one of the forgetful.
Whoever recites a hundred ayat in
qiyam will be recorded as one of the
devout, and whoever prays a thousand
ayat in qiyam will be recorded as one of
the muqantareen (those who pile up
good deeds).
