A Few Who Are Making A Difference

Heroes and
role models
are impor-
tant for our
children and
for us as
well. They
teach us
about life
and how to live it in the best way. If you
ask a kid who their hero is, most likely
they will respond with the name of an
athlete, an entertainer or someone they
see on TV. Our entertainment-focused
society lifts these folks up as models for
us.
I have nothing against these folks. I
enjoy watching sports and do look to
someone like Kevin Durant as a mod-
el—for basketball. He’s a great athlete
who has worked hard to be where he is
now—in the NBA. Genetics and gifts
from God have helped out quite a bit,
but no one is a professional athlete with-
out putting in countless hours practicing
their sport.
But true role models and heroes for
me are much closer to home than what
I see on TV. I need look no further than
our church family. That’s one reason I’m
so happy to have my sons being raised
by this wonderful community of FCC.
They get to see true role models in action
and be encouraged, influenced and af-
fected by the actions of these saints.
Consider Bernie and Joyce McNickle,
who put in countless hours doing church
work. Whether it’s organizing dinners,
visiting the sick and homebound or doing
other elder duties, they are tireless in their
efforts. If you ask them why they do it,
their response is as simple as, “That’s
what a Christian does.”
Or Dyke Moffatt, who has quietly
done some free dental work for another
member of the church. He didn’t want
fanfare, he just wanted to help. And help
he did.
How about Michele Schlough? She
has spent countless hours organizing a
ministry to send Christmas gift boxes to
needy children in foreign countries who
don’t have the opportunity to hear
about Christ’s love for them. Last year
they sent over 1,700 boxes—and who
knows how many they’ll do this year?
Or Kay Mades, who has spent many
hours encouraging and tutoring a girl
in our church family. She saw a need
and reached out, giving of her time and
sharing her love.
Finally I think of Eric Koegel and
John Werhun, both diagnosed with
cancer, but who have shown us cour-
age, faith, strength and love in how they
have dealt with their diagnoses and
treatment. They both have good news
and can share the many miracles God
has given them in their journeys. They
are an inspiration to me. As are all of
these folks. They are but a few of the
many miracle stories here at this church.
I invite you to take the time to hear the
many stories here—I know you’ll be
moved and I hope you’ll share them
with my children, too. They need to
hear about true heroes and role models.

Part-Time Office Position Available

We are searching for a new Support Specialist to join our staff team! This part-time position (8 to 12 hours weekly – varies by
season) will help support communication processes with emphasis in student and children’s ministries. Every week is different,
but you’ll be helping with e-mailings & mailings, newsletter layout, web updates, generating group lists and labels from our
database, and backing-up our wonderful office volunteers on the phones as needed.
Do you have demonstrated ability to design and produce a wide array of communications, including digital, web-based and
print media? Are you proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel and Adobe InDesign & Photoshop?
If you have an understanding of the basic spectrum of communications, publication strategies and social media including
the willingness to embrace emerging communications technologies you might be a perfect fit for the team.

 Fall CONNECTIONS Bible Study
ANOINTED TRANSFORMED REDEEMED
Ladies, come experience the greatness and power of God in the study
Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Story of David by Priscilla Shirer,
Beth Moore & Kay Arthur. We will journey through King David’s Life in
7-sessions. In Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed, you will view the life of
David through three segments, two lessons from each author. Each segment
focuses on the life of David at different stages of his life: a young man, a
middle-aged man & a man facing the final third of his life.
