Hill said that while access to higher education often gets mentioned as a culprit, higher
income inequality is primarily the result of government policy failure, and not the failure of
the higher education sector. Efforts to innovate and reduce costs in ways that maintain quality
and access to loan markets are also important increasing access to higher education among
non-wealthy families.

According to Ramey the number of jobs and restaurants in New York's fast-food
industry is growing at more than twice the national rate, said James Parrott, chief economist at
the Fiscal Policy Institute, a New York-based nonprofit research organization. The industry
likely could accommodate the higher wage, he said, with prices and sales increasing only at
their current rate, since the new wage likely would help reduce costly turnover and boost
productivity.

Johnson said that these men and women dedicate themselves each and every day in
service to lower Manhattan. With the wage increase, it will make their wages reflect the
importance of their work and they better support themselves and their families.

companies hire and how they develop their businesses. They do not cause businesses to pay

Here, Cooper tell us about opponents claiming that raising the wage floor will do more
bad than good, making businesses to fire staff, take away hours or raise prices. Investigation
demonstrated that a modest raise has little to no effect on jobs and that affected businesses can
absorb them with minor price adjustments.
