The Actors Studios 30 Extraordinary Years

In 1989, Joe and Faridah joined hands to form The Actors Studio. It was
the beginning of their lifelong pursuit to nurturethe arts in Malaysia.
Seven venues on, hundreds of award-winning productions later, The
Actors Studio has had a hand in nurturing thousands of artistes.
Leading up its 30th anniversary in 2019, The Actors Studio will be
mounting an ambitious celebration from 2018 onwards.

Celebrating
MUKA Spaces 5 Years of Creative Excellence

MUKA Space was founded by brothers Beijing-based Dr. Deric Gan and
Malaysia-based Easee Gan in November 2013.
The main objective of MUKA Space is to produce groundbreaking
Malaysian theatre and encourage cross-disciplinary performances as well
as more collaborations between artistes and different art forms locally
and internationally.
In just 4 years, MUKA Space has 23 productions and 31 awards under its
belt.

BOH Cameronian Arts Award & ADA Drama Award

First Malaysian with a PhD from The Central Academy of Drama, Beijing,
China (other prominent alumni incl. Zhang Ziyi & Tang Wei)
Worked as a director & playwright at the National Theatre Company of
China and lectured at the China National Centre for the Performing Arts
Directed more than 50 professional theatre productions and has been
invited to Europe many times
Worked with many top talents including Zhang Yi Mou when he was
tasked to direct part of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony

In Peking Man, considered by many to be his
masterpiece, Cao Yu returned to his original style of
drama concerned with human beings and their
poignant relationships. Written with a sense of
poetry, this three-act play objectively presents the
decline of a once-prominent scholar-official family
and fiercely attacks the tensions and hypocrisy of the
Chinese gentry: the good-for-nothing members of
the polite society of the time.

with the 100th anniversary of Malaysian Chinese
Theatre.

Directed by Easee Gan

Fiery Family debuted in 2014 under the direction of

multi-award winning director Dr. Deric Gan. This
one-act comedy was inspired by Tony Award-
winner, Yasmina Rezas Broadway black comedy
God of Carnage. The production later toured to
Perak as part of the L.E.D. Fiesta 2017 organised
by UTAR.

This 1980s play written by Russian writer Lyudmila
Razumovskaya shook the world when it premiered.
It was also the first play Beijing-based Malaysian
director Dr. Deric Gan presented in Malaysia
which went on to bag four awards including Best
Director.

Dr. Deric Gan adapted a 1972 Soviet war film based
on Boris Vasilyev's novel for the stage. The film was
nominated for a Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.
