Inacubelength,breadthandheightaresamewhileincuboidthesearedifferent.
Inacubethenumberofunitcubes=(side)3.

2.Howmanysmallcubeswillhavethreefacespainted?

Fromthefigureitisclearthatthesmallcubehavingthreefacescolouredaresituatedatthecornersofthebig
cubebecauseatthesecornersonlythreefacesofthebigcubemeet.

Thereforetherequirednumberofsuchcubesisalways8,becausethereare8corners.

3.Howmanysmallcubeswillhaveonlytwofacespainted?

Fromthefigureitisclearthattoeachedgeofthebigcube4smallcubesareconnectedandtwooutofthemare
situatedatthecornersofthebigcubewhichhaveallthreefacespainted.

Thus,toedgetwosmallcubesareleftwhichhavetwofacespainted.Asthetotalno.ofedgesinacubeare12.

Hencetheno.ofsmallcubeswithtwofacescoloured=12x2=24

Hence,inalltherewillbe6x4=24suchsmallcubes(or)(x2)2x6.
