NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (CLINICAL COURSE 111) ‘REVISED RULES (FEBRUARY, 2016) ‘The internship programme attempts to expose the students to see how law works in practice. Internships may be undertaken in lawyers’ chambers, courts, administrative offices, law firms, quas-judcial establishments, prosecution departments, police and correctional Institutions, commercial corporate establishments, Government Law Offices, legal aid centres, legislative secretariat, non-governmental organizations ete Ieaims to teach professional sills, essential aspects of professional ethics and social responsibilty issues and management of challenging situations in practical and professional i. ‘The following guidelines apply to the internship programme: 1. The programme is for 28 working days unless the University noties ‘otherwise. Its to be undertaken during the vacation between in February ~ ‘March or in October and is compulsory for B.A, LL.B. (Hons. students from third year onwards and for students of L1LM. 2 Incase a student participates in an exchange programme or a moot etc, and is, lunable to undertake the internship in February-March, it may be undertaken in the Octcber break preceding or following that acedemic year, 3, The nature of internship for students of different years of BA. LL.B. (Hons) course are is follows: (a) I year: Trial Court Internship this must include at least five Court Visits which invalve observation of court proceedings. ()1V year: Appellate Court or Law firms. This must include atleast five Court visite which involve observation of court proceedings in case of Appellate Coureinternships (©) V year : To be focused on the area in which the student wishes to specalize/ practice. However, the internship should have a primary legal component In case of doubt, please clarify in writing with your Placement Officer before you begin the internship 4. Students of LLM. are strongly encouraged to undertake internships with law schools/colleges/universites, firms, research centres or civil society organizations. However, the internship should have a primary legal component. In case of doubt, please clarify in writing with your Coordinator before you begin the internship, Internship Diary . Ie Is mandatory for all students undergoing Internships to maintain a day to day record in Internship Diaries, keeping the following in mind (a) Enter your experiences and impressions gathered that day. (B) Include adequate details to bring out what you have learnt, what ‘impressions you had on law, lawyers, courts and society, what dificulties you encountered and how you solved them. (0 There is no defined format for entering your experiences etc, as the internships vary in their nature. The record should invariably be legible, Togical and brief. However the record must provide adequate data for evaluation of your work. (@). Choose two cases out of those you come across in the course of the internship and write a note on each of them. ‘These case notes may be recorded in the Internship Diary itself or may be annexed separately. In Internships where cise work is not involved, detailed written reports on ‘wo ofthe assignments undertaken by the student may be submitted Internship Diaries must be duly signed by the Principal Supervisor at the end ofthe last entry and on the space provided on the front page. Diaries must be submitted by the student tothe Examination Department onthe first day of the reopening of the University after the relevant vacation. Diaries submitted later shal result ina decuction of half a mark per day up to six days inclusive ff Sundays and other holidays. Internship Diaries submitted later than six days will be marked zero. Case notes must be submitted along with the Internship Diary. If not submitted on time, they will be marked zero. Internship diaries canno: be signed by alumni who have graduated in the last five years (eg. ifthe Internship is being done in 2016, the alumnus should have graduated in 2010 or earier) Each Internship Diary must be signed and sealed by the person under whom the Internship was beingundertaken (Principal Supervisor), Internships cannot be done with close relatives Including parents grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings and spouses/ children ofall of the above. (Explanation: this bar applies to relatives as the Principal Supervisor ‘swell as inthe same office asthe Principal Supervisor) Please note that unless the Internship Diary is duly signed and sealed, it will not be evaluated, Evaluation 8. The Internship Diary, case notes and viva-voce would be the bass of evaluation, Internship vivas will be conducted/arranged for by the concerned Class Internship Coordinator. 9. The three mandatory Internships of B.A. LL.B. (Hons) students will be graded ‘out of 100 marks - 30, 30 and 40 for Il, 1V and V year respectively.
