Boy Scouts visit BFCC

Summer beautification was a huge success thanks to Boy
Scout troops from all over the state.
This summer, Ben Franklin Career Center was fortunate to host members of
the Venture Group from the Boy Scout Jamboree. They were here as part of
this yearly event and volunteered their services to help us make our campus Adult Welding

our grounds and parking lots, but that's not all! They also helped us get one

step further to realizing our Makerspace vision by painting and cleaning the constructed this
space in preparation for the set-up of equipment that was purchased adjustable fire pit to

Ben Franklin had a unique visitor in

It is amazing what turns up when you least
expect it! This is a photo of Robert C. Byrd
visiting Ben Franklin Career Center sometime in
the mid 1970s. Mr. Matt Cole (Metals
Technology instructor) was cleaning and found
this picture which had been buried for decades.
John Williams, who taught in the machine shop
at Ben Franklin from 1972 until 2009, is in the
picture with him.
September. Chizuru Ishimine, hosted by
Dr. Stan Hopkins of the WVDE, toured the
schools simulated workplaces and the
new Maker Space. Ms. Isimines goal was
to learn how our technical students benefit
from the experiences provided in the
Simulated Workplaces. She plans to take
back the ideas she saw being
implemented, such as 5S and company
structuring, to Kokusai Gakuin Saitama
College in Japan. Ms. Stowers , our new
principal, proudly showed off our
exceptional students and instructors. Mr.
Beasley, the Maker Space coordinator,
was able to demonstrate the varied
equipment supplied by a grant from the
Benedum Foundation.

LADY MAKES HER MARK IN A TRADITIONALLY MALE FIELD

Mr. Jason Allen (Ben Franklins diesel instructor) would like to give a
shout-out to Hannah Carpenter of St. Albans High School. Hannah
has a high A in Diesel with a 3.0 GPA at her home high school. She
is 16 years old and lives in St. Albans andworks for a lawn mowing
business (If anyone needs their grass cut LOL). Hannah excels in
Diesel and dreams of becoming a top Diesel technician one day.
