Dear Students:

Have you heard about Middle School’s new Activity Period? Once a month, we will use one period to
do fun activities within our house system (Aklan, Baguio, Cebu and Davao). Our first Activity Period is
this Friday, August 27 after lunch (Block H). See your home base advisor for more details of this
exciting event and remember to wear your house shirt to school on Friday.

What do you do after school? Many students say the best part of Middle School is the after-school
activities. Check this bulletin for information on all the different activities you can be involved
with. It is a great way to have fun, meet new friends and improve your skills.

Remember, we do not have class on Monday, August 23. We return Tuesday, August 24 and will follow
a Monday schedule (Blocks A-E).

Ms. Fredericks and Ms. Sayson

AUDITION INFORMATION

Dates: Thursday & Friday, August 26 & 27.

Signups: NOW. See pages on the board outside the choir room. 10-minute slots go by quickly, so
please be on time!

Audition: Singers are to prepare one song which demonstrates their vocal capabilities and love for
singing. A part of a song is also acceptable. A variety of vocal exercises will also be included, to
explore range and register shifts, dynamics, tonal memory, and musicality.

Details: (you may be wondering…)

• Auditions are open to anyone enrolled in a music class this year, first or second semester.
(Not sure about 2nd semester? Just check with the guidance office.)
• Ms. Hausman will select a larger ensemble of grades 6 – 8 to be the “ISM Honor Choir.”
From these, six* AMIS travelers will be selected from grades 7 & 8. Six “alternates” will
also be chosen.
• *Last year we were able to bring 9 singers. We used our first three alternates, plus one
more for a cancellation.
• The festival is at Hong Kong International School, February 9-13, 2011.
• “AMIS” stands for the Association for Music in International Schools. More information
about the organization can be found online at: www.amis-online.org
• This choir and AMIS festival is SSA, for girls only this time. If there is enough male interest
(9 or more), I will run a ISM Boys’ Honor Choir from Feb to May.
• The music is challenging! Singers who want to enjoy a higher level of repertoire but NOT
travel are welcome to audition for the ISM Honor Choir.
• Rehearsals will be one hour per week, decided by the selected participants and considering
all schedules.
