All sound insulation data is based on laboratory evaluation of the building element in
isolation and cannot reproduce your installed site local conditions.
The actual tests carried out are used to offer an order of magnitude comparison for the
performance of the various systems. Sound Insulation on site is a function of the partition
chosen and the associated structures in which it is installed. We cannot take any
responsibility for overall design and we would advise that specialist advice is sought at an
early stage of design. This document must be read in conjunction with the Speedline Metal
Solutions Guide.
All test data and system specifications are for systems constructed with materials and
components as shown. The inclusion of other components without prior approval or
constructed on site contrary to these documents will invalidate test certification and system
performance.
The information is provided in good faith and on the basis of details received, which are
assumed to include all relevant facts.
Maximum height calculated on Limiting Deflection L/240 @ Max Air Pressure 200pa.

General Notes:
Fire Resistance:
Fire resistance performance figures apply laboratory test on elements imperforate partitions. Fire resistance
information is based on the results of tests carried out to BS476: part 22 1987 or assessments based on these
tests. Some of our more recent fire tests have been conducted to European standard BS EN 1364-1: 1999
which is actually more stringent than the existing British Standard BS 476.
Sound Insulation:
Sound insulation performance figures apply laboratory test on elements imperforate partitions. Sound
insulation is based on the results of tests carried out to BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010 or assessments based on
these tests. Single figure ratings (RW) have been calculated to BS EN ISO 717-1.
Mechanical Performance:
Mechanical performance of Medium Duty, Heavy Duty or Severe Duty is determined from tests carried out to
BS 5234: 1992 or assessments based on these tests.
Galvanised Metal:
All sections are formed from pre galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10346: 2009.
Manufacture:
All sections are manufactured in accordance with BS EN 14195: 2005 which is the European Standard for
production of metal framing components for gypsum plasterboard systems used to build non load bearing
partitions, wall linings and ceilings.
CE Marking:
All relevant profiles conform to BS EN 14195: 2005. The products within this range are intended for use as
metal framing components within building construction works in conjunction with gypsum plasterboard where
the assembly is non-load bearing. The reaction to fire is Euroclass A1, being no contribution to fire. All
relevant products are ink marked with the official CE logo.
Test Data:
All sound insulation data is based on laboratory evaluation of the building element in isolation and cannot
reproduce your installed local conditions.
The actual tests carried out are used to offer an order of magnitude comparison for the performance of the
various systems. Sound insulation on site is a function of the partition chosen and the associated structures in
which it is installed. We cannot take any responsibility for overall design and we would advise that specialist
advice is sought at an early stage of design. This document must be read in conjunction with the SPEEDLINE
Product Application Guide.
All test data and system specifications are for systems constructed with materials and components as shown.
The inclusion of other components without prior approval or constructed on site contrary to these documents
will invalidate test certification and system performance.
The above information is provided in good faith on the basis of details received, which are assumed to
include all relevant facts.
K10 Notes
Handle and store materials in accordance with BS 8212 section 5. Do not use damaged boards
Cut boards neatly and accurately without damage to core or tearing of paper facing. Keep cut edges to a minimum and
position at internal angles.
Finish neatly giving flush, smooth, flat surfaces free from bowing and abrupt changes of level.
Metal Stud Framing (C & I Stud Partitions and I Stud Wall Lining):
Set out floor / ceiling track and perimeter studs to give framework that is accurately aligned with a true vertical plane. Fix
securely at all perimeters at not more than 600 mm centres. For 94 mm and 148 mm tracks we recommend two rows of
staggered fixings at not more than 600 mm centres.
Position studs at equal centres to suit specific linings, maintaining sequence across openings. Provide additional studs as
necessary to ensure support to all vertical edges of boards
Accurately form openings to receive door sets using boxed studs and or timber framing as necessary to achieve the
strength grade requirement to BS 5234.
Single layer C stud partition installations should be constructed from side to side (not built on one side only) to prevent
stepping at joints.
Set out WL60 floor / ceiling track accurately aligned and fix securely at maximum 600 mm centres with the shallow leg
towards the wall. Position AWL03 or AWL04 fixing brackets at maximum 800 mm centres and secure to wall. Slot WL507
wall liner section at equal centres to suit specific linings into floor / ceiling track, maintaining sequence across openings.
Secure brackets to wall liner section using suitable screws. If brackets protrude beyond the face of the framework, bend the
overhang over at 90 degrees or cut off.
Set out accurately aligned and level. Grid members and hangers must be installed at the correct centres to suit specified
linings and imposed loads.
Additional grid members may be required to provide bracing and stiffening at upstands, partition heads and access
hatches.
MF Ceiling System primary channel must be supported using 25 x 25 x 90 degree angle with angle fixing bracket linking
to the soffit.
Fix securely to all supports working from the centre of each board using drywall screws of the appropriate length.
Apply dabs of SPEEDLINE Drywall Adhesive to the background for one board at a time, to achieve at least 20% contact
with the surface area of the boards:
One row of horizontal dabs to coincide with the top edge of each board.
One continuous line of horizontal dabs to coincide with the bottom edge of each board.
One row of vertical dabs to coincide with the side edges of each board, and additional vertical row(s) at the following max
centres:
- 400 mm for boards 9.5 mm thick x 1200 mm wide.
- 600 mm for boards 12.5 mm thick x 1200 mm wide.
- 450 mm for boards 9.5 mm thick x 900 mm wide.
- 450 mm for boards 12.5 mm thick x 900 mm wide.
Ensure dabs are at least 25 mm from board edges.
For linings to receive ceramic finishes, apply one additional row of dabs at mid storey height.
Ceilings:
Repair small areas of broken plasterboard by cutting away paper, removing loose core material and filling with joint filler.
Apply PVAC sealer to exposed plaster and cut edge of paper before filling. Finish off to give a smooth, flush surface ready
for decoration.
Repair large areas of broken plasterboard by cutting out and replacing with an identical piece of plasterboard. Form a
neat hole with sides vertical and horizontal. Fix the patch using the same method as the existing dry lining ensuring full
support to all edges of the new and existing plasterboard. Fill joints, apply tape and finish off to give a smooth, flush
surface ready for redecoration.
Fixtures:
Heavy or medium duty fixtures must be attached to the metal framework. If necessary, additional framework must be added.
Partition Brace fixed horizontally between studs is particularly useful for hanging heating units, radiators and cupboards etc.
Plywood pattresses can also be secured between studs using ASP19B Service Support Plates.
Ceramic Tiling:
If ceramic tiles are being fixed to the finished wall, to prevent cracking of the tiles, stud centres must be reduced to 400 mm.
Tiles should only be fitted to double layer installations or single layers of 15 mm plasterboard up to a maximum height of
3600 mm.
Closely butt all joints with no gaps. Unless the insulation is a self-supporting slab type fitted between the studs, fix at head of
frame using long drywall screws or self-adhesive stick pins.
Fire Stopping:
Seal any air gaps at junctions of linings and service penetrations using tightly packed rock mineral wool or fire rated
acoustic mastic to prevent penetration of smoke and flame.
Deflection Heads:
Acoustic Sealant:
Seal any air gaps at junctions of linings with walls, floors, ceilings and around openings with a continuous bead of fire rated
acoustic mastic to clean dry dust free surfaces leaving no air gaps.
Moisture Resistance:
Moisture Resistant plasterboard of the specified type to be used in all wet environments or areas of high humidity.
Horizontal Joints:
Partition brace or flat strip must be used behind any horizontal joint in the plasterboard
For double layers, stagger joints between plasterboards by at least 600 mm.
Ensure that all plasterboard edges are supported by the metal framework.
Service Penetrations:
The drylining contractor must liaise with other contractors to ensure that fire resistance and other specific performance
requirements are not impaired by service penetrations.
Form metal framed openings (letterbox) accurately for grouped services and ducts allowing for fire stopping materials.
Provide insulation backing or putty pads to recessed electrical outlets and switches.
To join C Studs splice together with a minimum overlap of 600 mm and secure in both flanges with suitable screws.
To join I Studs butt together and cloak with a short length of deep track approximately 300 mm long and secure to both
flanges using suitable screws.
To join Wall Liner Section WL507 use AWL05 connector.
To join Ceiling Furring MF5 overlap by at least 150 mm and secure to both sides with suitable fixings.
To join Primary Channel MF7 overlap back to back by at least 150 mm and secure with two nuts and bolts.
