A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT CHURCH STATESMAN

I know this man who often comes our way is a holy man
of God. 2 Kings 4:9
After 45 years of formal pastoral ministry, including 23
years in service as pastor of Eastern Hills Baptist Church
(EHBC) in Montgomery, Dr. Rick Marshall has retired.
Our dear brother has not only served EHBC well, and
other congregations before her, but has also been one of
our greatest champions for Montgomery Baptist
missions.
Annual Celebration
Rick and Judy arrived from First Baptist Church,
Clanton, to Eastern Hills Baptist Church in 1994. At the
time, their three children, Joy, Julie, and John, were
young and living with them. Twenty three years later, as
their family filled two pews at EHBC with others in the
nursery, the congregation recognized the
Neal Hughes accomplishments of the Marshalls in a special Sunday
Director of Missions worship and reception on September 24. Among the
accolades of the day, here are some tweets:
I had the privilege of representing you in saying a few words of gratitude on
behalf of the MBA, along with a plaque commemorating this special day
honoring the life of Dr. and Mrs. Marshall.
Dr. Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama
Baptist State Board of Missions, honored Pastor
Rick, calling him a great statesman for Southern
Baptists.
The congregation gave Rick and Judy a vacation of
their choosing. Not a lover of heights, the trip will be
a place where Judy will not have to fly. Interestingly
though she believes the Bible verse that says lo, I
am with you always, Rick used to have his pilots
license.
Keith Pate sang in the midst of a tear-filled room
Ray Boltzs song, Thank you for giving to the Lord; Speaker:
I am a life that was changed.

It was noted that Rick had baptized 692 people during his tenure at Eastern 5:15 Annual Session

funerals during the two plus decades. All of us have been blessed by our Convention
