Banjarmasin is the capital city of South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
It is Located at minus 16cm elevation under sea level on delta island
near junction of the Barito and Martapura rivers. Those two has so many
river stream and as a result Banjarmasin sometimes called City of
Thousand Rivers. Until now Banjarmasin has total 720.000 population
spread around 5 districts.

These are some of problems in Banjarmasin. We can see from
the slide Total production of waste garbage in Banjarmasin about
600tons per day.
All this time, we only use conventional collect-dispose way to manage
garbage This conventional way has two disadvantages:
1. The cost is quite expensive
2. The final disposal will quickly become over capacity

Consequently, there must be a change in waste garbage
management and the solution is by reducing from its source. We find
the solution by
A. regulation and
B. developing a program called Waste Bank.

These photos shows us how Waste Bank work:
First in household scale, citizen divide the waste according to its kind
Second, after divided and collected, they deliver the waste to Waste
Bank
Third, in Waste Bank they measure the weight of the waste. Because
the price is set by type of waste and by its weight
The fourth and the last step is registration in Waste Bank account book.

Beside Waste Bank Program, recently the mayor of Banjarmasin
has create a regulation about the ussage of plastic bag in our city.
