Make Your Voice Heard

Do you think New Hampshire is focusing on the right transportation investments? Do you think we
need more transportation options to support an aging population, attract younger workers, and provide
access to basic needs, employment and community life for those who dont drive a car?

Nows your chance to have your say where it matters, at the public hearings on the Ten Year
Transportation Improvement Plan.

The first hearing is this Monday, September 11, in Merrimack, followed by eighteen more hearings
across the state throughout September and October.

Find one near you and let our policy makers know what you think our transportation spending
priorities should be.

Talk about the issues that are important to you. Feel free to use some of the talking points below, but
make sure to tell your own unique story and why transportation options matter to you. And try to keep
your remarks to just a few minutes.

Connecting the Dots

Age Friendly Communities: Without transportation options, we lose the ability to stay in our
homes and communities when we lose the ability to drive. Aging in place is what people want,
and it costs taxpayers significantly less than nursing homes. Failing to invest in transportation
options will make our demographic challenges much worse.

Workforce Development: Across the country, young skilled workers are moving to places where
theyre not stuck behind the wheel of a car all the time. They want to be able to choose when to
drive, when to take transit, and when to walk or ride a bicycle. And companies move where they
can find the workers they need. Thats why GE moved its headquarters from suburban
Connecticut to downtown Boston. Investing in transportation options will help keep New
Hampshire economically competitive.

Public Health: Transportation options allow people to reliably access medical care, including
mental health services and addiction treatment, with better outcomes at lower cost. In addition,
making it safe and inviting to walk or bicycle to some of our daily destinations will help reduce
the incidence of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Investing in the prevention and early
treatment of disease by providing transportation options is always cost effective.

Access for People of All Ages and Abilities: Transportation provides access to the things that
matter in life, like a job, education, family, friends, or even just basics like groceries. Access to
these things should not depend on a persons ability to afford or operate a vehicle. Investing in
transportation options means investing in an equitable society.

Beautiful, Clean New Hampshire: As we enjoy the crisp, clean air of autumn, and count
ourselves lucky to live in such a beautiful state, remember that transportation is the number one
contributor to air pollution in New Hampshire. Investing in transportation options helps protect
one of our greatest assets by reducing harmful emissions, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy
our scenic beauty for generations to come.
