ME/AE 160 ADAMS Assignment Three

Motion Analysis of a Crank-Slider Mechanism

Problem
Crank AB rotates at a constant angular velocity of = 1 rad/s. The length of AB is 0.2 m, and
the length of link BP is 0.75 m. The initial position of the mechanism is shown below.

P
A

Tasks
1) Plot the curves of the velocity and acceleration of slider P as the crank AB rotates from
0 to 360.
2) Calculate and manually for the initial position. Compare the results with simulation.

Suggested procedure
1. Create link AB
2. Create link BP.
1) Create point P. From the Construction
toolbox, select Point and create a point
close to where P is supposed to be.

1
2) Then select the point to Modify its
coordinates.

Enter the coordinates of P in the table,

then click OK. (722.8416 is the x-
coordinate, which is equal to
750 200 .)

3. Create link BP by using point B on the crank

AB and point P.
4. Create slider P (use Rigid Body-Box).
5. Create Joints
1) Create rotational joints at points A, B and
P
2) Create translational joint between slider P
and the ground

6. Add motion input = 1 rad/s to the crank.

6. Simulation
