Houston Area Millennials To Host Event To Train Young

People To Run For Office
Several hundred Millennials RSVP to attend a training at Rice University on how to run
for public office hosted and presented by their own peers

HOUSTON, TX Twice as many political candidates have filed to run for office in the
first 40 days of 2017 than in all of 2016. Houston Millennials, an organized group of
roughly 500 young adults under 38 years old, is working to keep the momentum going
by training young people how to run their first campaign for office.

"Millennials have the opportunity to take over the state of Texas." said Houston
Millennials Founder Ivan Sanchez. "With more than half of the precinct chair positions
open for both major parties vacant, there is an opportunity for us to be leaders of both
state parties and significantly impact the future of the Lone Star State starting now."

Houston Millennials is offering a non-partisan and free introductory training that will
provide an overview on how to run for public office, education about the role of Precinct
Chairs, and voter registration. The 450 RSVPs will have the opportunity to hear from
Millennial and iGeneration (born between 1996 - 2010) elected officials and candidates,
get a basic presentation on how to get started running for office, and have the
opportunity to sign up to fill empty Precinct Chair seats from Party vacancy chairs on
site.
