Syllables/Letter sound review (Based on needs)

Objective: SWBAT break words apart into syllables

SWBAT to verbalize how many syllables are in a word

KIPPSters! Today we are going to learn something new called syllables or word
parts! When we talk about syllables we are talking about how many parts of a word
there are. For instance, the name Melissa has three word parts. Watch how I
figured that out! (for syllables the first syllable your hands goes on your head, then
your shoulders, then hips, then knees, then feet).

Now its your turn to try! When I say get ready for syllables you all need to stand up
and get ready!

(to start I would use student names so they are invested in syllables.)

Segmenting
Objective: SWBAT break apart the sounds in a word.

T: KIPPsters! When we segment words we say each sound that we hear in a word.
Today I am going to try and trick you! We are going to segment a bunch of different
words. Some have 3 sounds, some have 2 sounds and some have 4 sounds! Listen
very closely for all of the sounds in the words!

Words to segment: go, toe, eat, bust, run, got, mop, flat, stood, ran, row etc

Ending Sounds

KIPPsters! Today we are going to work on something that we have been working on
in writing! We are going to listen for the ending sounds in a word. When we find
the ending sounds in the word we chop it! Listen closely as I chop to find the ending
sound in the word mop! (say the word mop and chop at the end emphasizing the
/p/ sound. ) What sound do you hear at the end of the word? Thats right, /p/!
Lets try some words together.

Ex: mug, pot, sit, stop, cup, ran, buzz (only do words with consonants at the end for
now)
Blends (cl)

KIPPsters we are going to work on reading blends! (review the digraphs and blends)
Today we are going to learn the blends cl! Cl say /cl/ like clock!

Lets make a list of different words that start with /cl/!

(Make a /cl/ anchor chart!)
**If time allows play the teacher vs student game

time fast. First lets look at the letters in this word.
