UNIT BACKGROUND
Unit Title: Congruence, Proof, & Constructions Grade Level: 9-10
Subject/Topic: Geometry Honors
Unit Designer: Tyler Parenzan Time Frame: 45 Days Quarter: 1
School: Foundation Collegiate Academy
Essential questions:
How do we know if two shapes are congruent?
How and why are proofs necessary?
What are constructions and why are they useful?
Enduring Understandings:
-Students will be able to perform various constructions to prove congruence and different congruence
postulates.
-You do not need to know every pair of corresponding sides and angles in order to prove two triangles are
congruent
-Proofs are analogous to writing argumentative/persuasive essays
-You can create arguments in math and express those arguments through proofs.
Performance Task Summary (What performance measures will you include in this unit?)
Can students construct an equilateral triangle with a straight-edge & compass?
Can students solve multi-step algebraic problems in a triangle and with transversals?
Can students develop and complete steps in proofs of transversals, triangles, and
parallelogram theorems?
Can students perform transformations freehand, in a coordinate plane, and for proofs?
Can students solve unknown angles with basic info given, transversals, & in a triangle?
Can students perform rotations, reflections, and translations in a coordinate plane?
Can students perform multiple transformations in a coordinate plane?
Can students solve proofs of triangles using SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, & HL short-cuts?
Can students complete proofs of parallelogram theorems?
