Term 3 Early Stage 1 - Stage 1 Library Program 2017

CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK - CBCA

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week
celebrating books, and Australian authors and illustrators. Teachers
and librarians conduct activities relating to a theme to highlight the
importance of reading.
At Copacabana Public School library, term 3 library lessons will focus on responding to texts
from the Childrens Book Council Shortlist.

Students, will be asked to vote for the book they think should win the Childrens Book Council
award

Each student will have a voting sheet to record his or her vote. After the winning book is
announced by the CBCA, students that have voted for the book will receive a lollypop as a
prize.

Criteria for voting students will consider are:

1. Front cover is appealing and makes you want to read the book,

2. The illustrations help tell the story, are interesting or colourful.

3. The story made them feel something, e.g. happy, made them laugh, made them sad or
reminded them of something in their own lives.

As part of Book Week celebrations lessons will focus on the shortlisted titles from the Early
Childhood category.

Students will respond creatively to the texts. Resources will be mainly, sourced from the
Escape to Everywhere booklet created by the Ipswich Teacher Librarian Network.
