The information provided in this training presentation

is for discussion purposes only and is not intended to
be used for equipment operation.

Always refer to the appropriate plant procedures and

the equipment suppliers Operation & Maintenance
Manuals.

Check all maintenance access doors

The bolted plate type doors installed on the high

voltage bus system between the transformers and
roof platform are not key interlocked.

A visual check should be made to insure that all of

these doors are in place and properly bolted down
with the danger signs clearly visible.

Close and lock all access doors

Follow the sequence established by the Safety Key

Interlock System. All doors should be closed
tightly and locked.

Remove all safety grounding devices

If the precipitator has been opened for inspection

or maintenance, grounding cables will need to be
removed.

Using the insulated pole (Hot Stick) remove the

clamp from the high voltage system. Remove the
welding connection from the receptacle mounted
on the casing.

Close and lock the doors.

Return T/R Ground Switches to On position

With the interlock keys obtained by locking the

designated grounding doors, turn the T/R set
grounding switches to their normal operating
HV position.

Prepare to energize T/R controls

As the final step in returning the Key Interlock

system to its normal operating position, interlock
keys from the T/R grounding switch are inserted
in the individual T/R control panels.

Energize Hopper and Support Insulator Heaters

The heaters are to be energized at least eight (8)

hours before starting the Precipitator.

Energize all of the Rapper Systems prior to initial fire

Even though the T/R sets are not energized, the

rapping systems should be in operation whenever
gas is flowing through the Precipitator.

Energize T/R Sets & Prepare to increase system

Voltage

Since condensation within the precipitator can result

in the deposition of sticky or wet deposits which will
be difficult to remove and can lead to corrosion,
energizing the precipitator should be delayed until
the flue gas temperature reaches a minimum of
132oC (270oF).

Energize T/R Sets

With the controller set for zero volts output,

energize the unit. Bring the T/R primary voltage
up slowly.

When the output reaches approximately 25

KVDC, see that both primary and secondary
currents are registering on their respective
meters.

Energize T/R Sets

If either current does not register, or if they are

excessive, de-energize the system using the proper
interlock procedures for personnel safety. Check for
an open or shorted condition in the precipitator
system. Rectify the problem, then start again.

Energize T/R Sets

Set the under-voltage trip level at the desired

point and record the time it takes the controller
to trip off line. (Commissioning Phase Only).

Let the unit run at 25 KVDC for thirty minutes.

Energize T/R Sets

After the T/R has run at the reduced voltage level for
thirty (30) minutes, increase the input until the unit
reaches rated voltage or current, whichever comes
first.

DO NOT EXCEED EITHER THE RATED VOLTAGES

OR RATED CURRENTS OF THE T/R SET.
