Reformation Commemoration Service
on October 29
A Reformation Commemoration Service is
to be held jointly by the Nebraska and
Western Iowa synods on Sunday, Oct. 29,
2017, from 2-3:15pm with reception to
follow. The service will be held at St.
John's Parish on the Creighton University
campus in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bishop Brian Maas of the Nebraska Synod
and Bishop Rodger Prois of the Western
Iowa Synod will be leading the worship
service. The service also will feature choral
music to help commemorate the occasion.
Representatives of the ELCA's ecumenical
partners will be invited to attend and
participate. Registration to attend the
event is now open online
at nebraskasynod.org.
St. John's in Norfolk will host a livestream
of this worship service on Sunday, October
29, with seating open in St. John's
sanctuary starting at 1:30 PM. Holy
Communion will be included as a part of
St. John's Livestreaming of the Worship
Service.

live on their own devices

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who made

help serve and clean up, and just pitch in where
needed for Pastor Justin's luncheon. We are so
fortunate to have all of you.
 HOLY LAND VISIT WILL INCLUDE
AUGUSTA VICTORIA HOSPITAL
The Nebraska Synod group NSHLA will
take another travel group to the Holy
Land April 16-28, 2018, with Rev. Megan
Morrow as the leader. Lutheran World
Federation (LWF) is active in Jerusalem,
serving Palestinian people through
education and health care. Augusta
Victoria Hospital serves displaced
Palenstinian people who often are unable
to pay for health care.
AVH highlights from 2016 include
establishment of a diabetes care center,
the opening of the bone marrow
transplant unit, and the establishment of
a school for children hospitalized long-
term for chronic diseases. All of this and
much more happens in a beautiful,
unique building on the Mount of Olives.

Please consider sharing your talents by
participating as a member of: St. Johns Church
Council, a member of the Benefaction Board or
as a representative of our congregation at the
Synod Assembly. Church Council duties include
attending monthly meetings, getting to know
the congregation through being Council
Member of the Weekend, assist with church
gatherings, being a liaison for a Ministry
Leadership Team, and attending any specially
called council meetings. Benefaction Board
members meet on a quarterly basis during the
year and review presentations on the spending
of outreach dollars citywide, state wide and
country wide. Representatives to the Nebraska
Synod Assembly from St. Johns will travel to
Kearney May 31 June 1, 2018 to represent our
congregation. A planning meeting is also held
on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Check the

Bright Horizons was able
to collect 5,104 diapers and 73 packages of
wipes for our victims and their families! Our
staff truly appreciates all of the continued
support, as this makes it possible for us to
continue to serve victims of domestic
violence and sexual assault.
