In flow - you are exercising control of what you are doing and don't care about controlling the outside world. Activities that produce flow can become addictive at which point the selfe becomes captive of a certain kind of order, and is then unwilling to cope with the ambiguities of life. Preocupation with the self consumes psychic energy because in everyday life we often feel threatened. Whenever this happens we need to bring the image we have of ourselves back into awareness so we can find out wether the threat is or not serious. autotelic experience - a self contained activity, one that is done not with the expectation of some future benefit, but simply because the doing itself is the reward. 84
