) What band was once named Mammoth until its new singer convinced them to change their
name to the surname of the lead singer who he would replace as lead vocalist, since the original
singers surname sounded like an atomic bomb. What is the name of that band?

Van Halen

Originally named Genesis, the band had to change their name upon learning that another band
already had copyrighted that name. After a brief stint as Rat Salade (a play on the name of a Black
Sabbath track, Rat Salad off of Paranoid) they settled on Mammoth. After a period of time as
Mammoth, with Eddie Van Halen as lead guitarist and vocalist, Eddie grew frustrated with the task of
being the lead singer and paying to rent P.A. equipment from one David Lee Roth, so he offered Roth the
job as vocalist to both save money and recuse himself as front man. Roth agreed. Upon joining the band,
David Lee Roth convinced Eddie that his surname would make a great band name. Eddie was hesitant, but
ultimately agreed.
