INTRODUCTION

Optoelectronics is the study and application of electronic devices and

systems that source detect and control light, usually considered a sub-field of
photonics. In this context, light often includes invisible forms of radiation such
as gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet and infrared, in addition to visible light.
Optoelectronic devices are electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical
transducers, or instruments that use such devices in their operation. Electro-
optics is often erroneously used as a synonym, but is a wider branch of physics
that concerns all interactions between light and electric fields, whether or not
they form part of an electronic device.
Optoelectronics is based on the quantum mechanical effects of light on
electronic materials, especially semiconductors, sometimes in the presence of
electric fields. This course split into five chapters.
First chapter fully covers the properties of the light, study about the
semiconductor and solid state physics. Second chapter explain, what are the
sources to be used in a optical communication network, and also explain the
working principles and its structure. What the detectors are used to detect the
photons from the light source it to be seen in third chapter. Fourth one is fully
concentrate on how signal modified and what are the switches, logic devices are
used. Last chapter to explain the construct the optoelectronic Integrated circuits.
End of this course students are very good knowledge about the
optoelectronics devices and to construct the own circuit. This knowledge is
apply to the Li-Fi technology.
