Join the Catholic Faith

In pairs, write and perform a script for a 3-4 minute podcast discussion. Your script should be
approximately 400-600 words.

Using a key figure from the Old Testament, explore the reasons why someone today would benefit from
becoming a member of the Catholic faith community. Use ideas and language that will appeal to your
audience. To produce a thorough discussion, include the following points and clearly indicate which
partner will be responsible for completing each section of the script.

Partner A: ______________________________________________________
Partner B: ______________________________________________________

Partner Responsible Discussion Point

Introduce a prophet from the Old Testament.
Briefly explain why this person is a key figure in the Old Testament.
What did God ask them to do?
What attribute did they demonstrate whilst fulfilling Gods wishes?
Briefly explain the central message, ideas or themes associated with the
Old Testament. For example, try to focus on the relationship between
humankind and God.
Watch the clip below to revise the main ideas:

Identify what Catholics believe
What do the Creeds say?
How do these beliefs apply to everyday life?
Remember to use ideas and language that will be appealing to your
audience as you dont want to overwhelm them.
How would a person benefit from being a member of the Catholic
community?
How do Catholic beliefs help people to live better lives?
What does being Catholic mean today?
What can we do in our day to day lives to show a generosity of spirit and
live out Gods Word?
Identify a role model in todays society who clearly lives out Catholic
values in their lives.
Why is this person admired?
How are they living out one or more statements from the Beatitudes?
How can the everyday person be more like this person?
Summarise in an engaging way what the Church offers society today.
Be creative with this task and record your podcast.

Attach your script to this task sheet. Clearly indicate which parts of the script were written by Partner A
and which sections were written by Partner B.

Record below, where your podcast is saved. Remember that your teacher will need access to the final
product. Each partner must also have a copy.

presentation style or personality. Note that each partner needs equal speaking time, so share the workload in
preparing AND presenting the script.

[BACKGROUND INFORMATION]. They were an important figure in the Old
Testament because [REASON]. In the Book of [BIBLE BOOK], God asked

In the Old Testament, humankind had a [POSITIVE/NEGATIVE] relationship with
God. For example, [FIND AN EXAMPLE TO SUPPORT YOUR DECISION]. God
wanted His people to [DO/SAY/ACT/BE xxxx]. The main messages of the Old
Testament that people should take to heart today are [LIST AT LEAST TWO]. I
heard that the followers of a Jewish man, Jesus, started a new faith. Christianity?
Whats that all about?

YES / NO Identify what Catholics believe

What do the Creeds say?
How do these beliefs apply to everyday life?
Remember to use ideas and language that will be appealing to your
audience as you dont want to overwhelm them.
Christianity is [EXPLANATION]. Today, our focus is on Catholicism, which is
[EXPLANATION IN REGARDS TO CHRISTIANITY]. Catholic believe that [LIST ONE
BELIEF]. Furthermore, Catholics also say [LIST ANOTHER CORE BELIEF]. All
Catholic belief comes from the Nicene and Apostles Creeds. The main themes of
the Creeds are [LIST TWO OR THREE CORE IDEAS]. These creeds have a lot of

YES / NO How would a person benefit from being a member of the Catholic
community?

values in their lives.
Why is this person admired?
How are they living out one or more statements from the Beatitudes?
How can the everyday person be more like this person?

While [PROPHET] is a good role model, there are many people in todays world
who live out Catholic values and are very admirable. For example, [GIVE
EXAMPLE AND SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION]. We should admire this
person because [GIVE ONE OR TWO EXAMPLES]. Have you heard of the
Beatitudes, [PROPHET]? These were [EXPLANATION]. One of the Beatitudes that
matches closely with [ROLE MODEL] is [EXAMPLE] because [REASON]. If we
[ACTION], then we can be more like [ROLE MODEL] and a role model for others.
