China is a country located in East Asia. It is the worlds
most populous country. There are 1.35 billion people in
China and its size is 9.500.000 million square kilometres. VICENS VIVES
Beijing is the capital of China.

Chinas most popular animal is the Giant Panda. It is


an endangered species, like the Siberian Tiger, the
Golden Monkey and the Chinese Alligator. They are
considered national treasures.

Chinas flag has five yellow stars on a red background.

The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world. It is the longest wall in the world with a
length of 8.8 kilometres.

Dragons are of course legendary animals, but they are


important to Chinese people, who think dragons are helpful and
friendly. They are linked to good luck, long life and wisdom.
Dragon dances are performed at New Year to scare away evil
spirits.

Typical Chinese food includes rice, noodles, vegatables,


tofu, spring rolls, peking duck and sweet and sour pork.

A fortune cookie is a crispy cookie usually made from flour,


sugar, vanilla, and sesame seed oil. It has a piece of paper
inside, with a message that tells your fortune.

Halloween
Halloween is a yearly celebration observed in
some countries on the 31st October.

Halloween has its origins in pagan festivals held


around this time of the year in England, Wales,
Scotland and Ireland. People believed that, on this
date, the spirits of dead people could come 'alive'.
They thought that it was important to dress up in
costumes when going outside, to avoid being hurt
by the spirits.
Halloween celebrations include parties VICENS VIVES
where guests are expected to arrive in a
costume to reflect the day's theme. Other
people gather together to watch horror
films, either at home or at a cinema.

Some children go trick-or-treating. This means that


they dress up and go to other peoples' houses,
knocking on the doors for treats, which include
sweets or a snack. Those who do not give out a treat
may be tricked with a joke.

There are various symbols associated with Halloween. The


colours orange and black are very common. Other symbols include
pumpkin lanterns, witches, ghosts, spirits and characters from
horror films. Animals associated with the festival include bats,
spiders and black cats.
